OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, ensuring accurate financial statements and its related schedules, managing reconciliations, ensuring VAT and IFRS compliance, supporting audits, and providing financial analysis across all Bahrain Surf Park operations. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will oversee the full-cycle accounting process, maintain ledger integrity, control payables and receivables, manage fixed asset accounting, and uphold robust internal financial controls in full alignment with Kingdom of Bahrain tax regulations, IFRS standards, and company policies.
WHAT YOU DO:
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
General Ledger Management, Financial Statements & Month-End Closing
- General Ledger Integrity: Maintain, post, and reconcile general ledger accounts and master accounting records for all business operations.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements along with all supporting schedules and management balance sheet breakdowns.
- Journal Entries & Adjustments: Prepare and record monthly journal entries, expense accruals, prepayments, deferred costs, and depreciation charges.
- Financial Analysis: Provide detailed financial analysis, ratio assessments, and expense trend reviews across all park operating departments to support executive decision-making.
Accounts Payable, Receivables & Supplier Reconciliations
- Payables & Receivables Control: Actively monitor accounts payable aging schedules, vendor invoicing, customer billings, and accounts receivable collections.
- Supplier Reconciliations: Perform regular, detailed supplier statement reconciliations against ERP accounts ledger balances, resolving vendor statement variances promptly.
- Payment Verification: Audit incoming supplier invoices against purchase orders, receiving documentation, and contract terms prior to payment scheduling.
Fixed Asset Register & Depreciation Management
- Fixed Asset Register Maintenance: Maintain and continuously update the official Fixed Asset Register (FAR), tracking asset additions, disposals, transfers, and capital project movements.
- Depreciation Schedules: Calculate and execute monthly depreciation charges across all asset classes in accordance with company accounting policies and IFRS guidelines.
- Physical Asset Audits: Coordinate periodic physical inventory checks and tagging of fixed assets across park facilities to verify asset existence and condition.
Taxation, VAT Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
- Bahrain VAT Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Kingdom of Bahrain Value Added Tax (VAT) laws, rules, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- VAT Documentation & Filings: Maintain complete VAT documentation, calculate input/output tax reconciliations, and prepare accurate VAT return submissions to the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR).
- Tax Audit Readiness: Support tax queries, NBR audits, and official regulatory tax inspections with complete, verifiable documentation trails.
Compliance, Internal Controls & Audit Support
- Internal Control Enforcement: Maintain strong internal financial controls, approval thresholds, and rigid segregation of duties across all accounting workflows.
- Governance & Policy Adherence: Ensure strict organizational compliance with company policies, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and Bahrain local laws.
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate and support internal and external auditors during annual audits, providing required schedules, trial balances, and supporting audit evidence.
- Risk Identification & Process Improvement: Continuously identify operational financial risks, assess accounting control gaps, and recommend workflow improvements to optimize operational efficiency.
Required Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (Required).
- Professional accounting credential preferred (ACCA, CPA, CMA, or CIMA).
- Fluent in English; Arabic fluency is a strong advantage.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of professional core accounting experience.
- Experience within the hospitality, leisure, tourism, or entertainment industries is highly preferred.
- Proven background in general ledger maintenance, fixed asset tracking, VAT filings, and IFRS financial statement preparation.
Required Professional Skills and Attributes
- Technical Software Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, financial modeling, pivot tables) and enterprise ERP accounting systems (Zoho Books/Finance preferred).
- Accounting Standards: In-depth, practical knowledge of IFRS standards and Kingdom of Bahrain VAT regulations.
- Core Competencies: Acute attention to detail, analytical thinking, high integrity, strict confidentiality, strong communication skills, collaborative teamwork, and proactive problem-solving abilities.
Required Personal Qualities
- Methodical, organized, and detail-oriented approach to maintaining accounting accuracy.
- High ethical standards, discretion, and honesty when handling corporate financial records.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with departmental teams, auditors, and external tax authorities.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines and perform under pressure during period-end closures.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS)
- Financial Statement Timelines: 100% on-time delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
- VAT Compliance Accuracy: Zero late filings or penalty notices from the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR).
- Reconciliation Precision: 100% completion of supplier and general ledger reconciliations within established monthly closing windows.
- Audit Compliance: Clean audit reports with zero material control deficiencies or major adjustments identified by internal/external auditors.
- Fixed Asset Accuracy: Maintain 99%+ audit match accuracy on the Fixed Asset Register during physical verifications.
