Wollongong Private Hospital is a 171 bed private hospital operated by Australia's largest private hospital operator, Ramsay Health Care, is set in the heart of Wollongong's Medical Precinct. It features state of the art equipment, facilities and patient services setting a benchmark for healthcare facilities in the Illawarra. Wollongong Private Hospital provides all major services including an intensive care unit, ten operating theatres, cardiac and vascular Labs and an Endoscopy suite. Surgical specialties include Cardiothoracic, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, Head and Neck, Gynaecological, Urology, Colorectal, upper GI, General, Vascular and Plastics.

Figtree Private Hospital is a Ramsay Health Care facility offering rehabilitation, medical, early parenting centre and sleep study facility. It offers a full range of services for patients recovering from recent surgery, pain or any condition where there is a need to improve functional ability and strength.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to support patients across both Wollongong Private Hospital and Figtree Private Hospital.

About the Role

The Medical Nurse Practitioner will work predominantly within the General Medical Ward, providing advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and care coordination for adult medical inpatients. The role will function autonomously within the approved Nurse Practitioner scope of practice while working collaboratively with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. The Medical Nurse Practitioner will undertake daily ward rounds, monitor patient progress, coordinate investigations and treatment plans, facilitate timely discharge planning, and provide continuity of care throughout the patient's admission.

The role will support patients with a range of acute, chronic and complex medical conditions, including respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia and asthma exacerbations; heart failure and cardiovascular disease; diabetes and endocrine disorders; sepsis and infection management; complex geriatric patients; patients requiring post-ICU step-down support; and patients experiencing prolonged lengths of stay or discharge barriers. The Medical Nurse Practitioner will also provide expert clinical leadership, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, support patient flow, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes.

About You

  • Current endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Qualification in Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner).
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills and extended practice utilising evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrated professional leadership, team contribution, mentoring and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven commitment to the development of learning, teaching and research-oriented work environment within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated high-level communication, liaison, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to own professional development. Knowledge and understanding of current trends in healthcare practice, research and education and contributes to such on a local or national basis.
  • Evidence of commitment to, and participation in, clinical and/or educational research and quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality care and ensuring client safety.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required.
  • Post-graduate studies in appropriate specialty (desirable).
  • Sound computer skills in MS Office suite including Excel (desirable).
  • Previous experience in a similar nurse practitioner position (desirable).
