Wollongong Private Hospital provides all major services including an intensive care unit, ten operating theatres, cardiac and vascular Labs and an Endoscopy suite. Surgical specialties include Cardiothoracic, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, Head and Neck, Gynaecological, Urology, Colorectal, upper GI, General, Vascular and Plastics.

Job Description

Wollongong Private Hospital is seeking Career Medical Officer's to join our team on a part-time or casual basis.

About the Role

The Career Medical Officer (CMO) provides frontline medical care to inpatients across the hospital, working collaboratively with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), nursing staff, and allied health teams. The CMO is responsible for assessing patients, delivering timely medical interventions, responding to emergencies, and ensuring safe, coordinated care throughout the admission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessment, examination, investigations, and initiation of treatment as requested by VMOs or senior nursing staff.
  • Provide ongoing inpatient care, review high‑risk patients, and escalate deterioration promptly to VMOs.
  • Attend and lead initial response to medical emergencies and cardiac arrest calls across all clinical areas.
  • Maintain accurate, legible clinical documentation, including results review, medication charts, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate effectively with VMOs, nursing teams, and allied health to ensure coordinated and safe patient management.
  • Participate in clinical handover at shift changes and attend safety huddles to maintain situational awareness.
  • Provide after‑hours medical cover and ensure completion of outstanding tasks before shift end.

About You

  • AHPRA Registration
  • PGY3+
  • Previous experience in a similar role or as a Registrar in a similar role
  • Demonstrated high level of clinical competence
  • Highly developed verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Suite

Additional Information
