Under the direction of the Director of the Office of Veteran & Military Student Services (VMSS), this position will include developing a comprehensive faculty and staff training, developing peer support programs, developing internal and external communication materials, developing, and maintaining participant tracking, developing programming and workshops in coordination with other University services (ex. Career Center, Experiential Learning) to provide job readiness and transition skills. This position will create new programming and support and oversee existing programming and support for veterans and military-connected students and will work with campus partners in creating and implementing these programs. This position will create and maintain program information materials, such as brochures, flyers, and newsletters. This position will perform outreach to existing and potential students to provide information and resources. This position will perform outreach to build and maintain strategic community partnerships.

Veteran Transition & Support Senior Coordinator: What you will do:

  • Coordinate all VMSS program activities, events, and programs.
  • Serve as a resource for all military-connected students seeking education and career transition services.
  • Coordinate internship and career portions of the program with appropriate internal programs.
  • Coordinate the mentorship aspect of the program, including, but not limited to, maintaining the roster of students and professional mentors, matching them according to major (student) and career/field (mentor), introducing/connecting the student and mentor as well as monitoring the mentorship process.
  • Under the direction of the Director, this position will serve as a point person on Boots to Suits related issues and serve as a community liaison to local businesses/corporations, veteran organizations, and community resources.
  • This position will assist and be present in all Boots to Suits courses.
  • Coordinate services with other University Departments, specifically the CU Denver Experiential Learning and Career Centers, and others as needed.
  • Monitor Boots to Suits student program participants as they matriculate through the program.
  • Oversee the creation and continuation of all Boots to Suits promotional materials, social media information and program website.
  • Maintain and foster new relationships internal and external relationships with various veteran serving organizations to further develop resources for CU Denver students.
  • Develop and maintain a roster of CU Denver Veteran Alumni and contact them for potential future mentorship opportunities.
  • Perform outreach in both the CU Denver student veteran population as well as the local business community to generate more student and business interest and participation.
  • Develop and administer staff and facility training programs.
  • Oversee peer-to-peer mentor development and programing.
  • Serve as advisor/liaison for student veteran affiliated campus organizations.
  • All other duties or unforeseen responsibilities regarding the program as needed.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, social science, business, public administration, business administration, higher education, counseling, liberal arts, finance, accounting, human services, student affairs, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of professional level experience working in higher education.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Veteran of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Master’s degree in progress or completed.
  • One year or more experience working with Veterans in a higher education setting.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of access and engagement with a commitment to developing equitable practices.

Conditions of Employment

  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where in-person is for three to four days and remote for one to two days based on the needs of the office. There will be occasional periods when in person work will be required five days a week based on the needs of the office.
  • Working from the office is required when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements

  • This position may be performed on site, and will require the ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.
  • This position may be performed in a hybrid or remote environment, requiring the ability to work effectively in a remote setting. This includes maintaining a dedicated workspace free of excessive noise or distractions, reliable internet connectivity, and the ability to participate in virtual meetings for extended periods. Employees must be able to independently manage time, remain stationary for prolonged computer-based work, and transport necessary equipment (such as a laptop and peripherals) between their remote work location and the office as needed.
  • Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $55,322 - $61,146. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
