The opportunity
The BMC MarTech Solution Architect plays a pivotal role in defining and enabling the future of BMC's digital, data and marketing technology ecosystem. This role is part of the Enterprise Technology CBS Solutions Delivery Team and partners closely with Product Managers in Technology Enablement and cross-functional business teams such as Clients & Industries (C&I), Talent, Alumni and Communications.
The architect is responsible for translating business strategy into target-state architecture, defining the practical transition states required to reach it, and helping leadership and Product Managers convert that direction into prioritized, executable delivery roadmaps. The role brings together business, application, data, integration and technology perspectives to guide investment decisions and enable a scalable, data-driven and AI-enabled future.
The role will also shape the future architecture of BMC's AI-enabled MarTech ecosystem, defining how enterprise platforms, data, AI agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP) services and emerging technologies work together securely and at scale to deliver business value.
Your key responsibilities
- Own and maintain the BMC MarTech architecture strategy, vision and target-state architecture.
- Develop future-state business, capability, application, data, integration and technology architectures aligned to business priorities and enterprise standards.
- Assess the current landscape and define transition-state architectures, capability increments and migration approaches required to reach the target state.
- Partner with Product Managers and business leaders to translate architecture into phased multi-year delivery roadmaps, investment plans and measurable business outcomes.
- Identify cross-product dependencies, sequencing requirements, constraints, technical debt and transformation risks, and ensure these are reflected in delivery planning.
- Produce capability maps, architecture blueprints, heat maps, maturity assessments, integration views and transformation roadmaps that support clear decision-making.
- Translate strategic business needs into end-to-end solution options and recommendations, including benefits, costs, risks, compliance, technical debt and long-term sustainability.
- Advise senior leadership on technology strategy, platform evolution, investment priorities, sourcing choices and the implications of architecture decisions.
- Define and maintain MarTech architectural principles, standards, reusable patterns and reference architectures.
- Define architectural patterns for AI agents, agent orchestration, MCP-enabled integrations and emerging digital worker capabilities across the MarTech ecosystem.
- Assess emerging technologies, including agentic AI, MCP frameworks, orchestration platforms and autonomous workflow capabilities, and determine their applicability to BMC business outcomes.
- Define the governance, security, identity, observability and interoperability patterns required to support AI-enabled products and services at enterprise scale.
- Act as the architectural connector across BMC, ET, C&I, Talent, Alumni and Communications, ensuring alignment across products, programmes and business functions.
- Reduce duplication and complexity by promoting reuse of enterprise platforms, shared capabilities, common data and agreed standards.
- Collaborate with Data Architecture teams to define AI-ready data models, taxonomies, metadata structures and information flows.
- Ensure MarTech platforms integrate effectively with enterprise data lakes, CDPs, analytics platforms, identity services and consent capabilities.
- Assess emerging technologies and evaluate platform and vendor options with Product Management teams.
- Support business cases, portfolio prioritisation, design assurance and enterprise governance forums.
- Promote API-first, event-driven, modular and composable architecture principles.
- Champion security, privacy, accessibility, performance, resilience, observability and global scalability throughout the product lifecycle.
- Communicate complex architectural concepts and trade-offs in clear, business-focused language for executive, product and delivery audiences.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on MarTech strategy, transformation, innovation and platform evolution.
Skills and attributes for success
- Deep knowledge of MarTech ecosystems, including CRM, CDP, CMS, DAM, marketing automation, analytics, identity and consent.
- Strong architecture modelling capabilities across business, capability, data, application, integration and technology domains.
- Proven experience producing current-state assessments, target-state architectures, transition-state designs and migration strategies.
- Experience developing multi-year transformation roadmaps and working with Product Managers to convert architectural direction into sequenced delivery plans.
- Ability to translate executive objectives and business outcomes into actionable architecture, investment priorities and delivery roadmaps.
- Experience leading architecture across complex transformation programmes involving multiple platforms, products and business functions.
- Knowledge of emerging AI architecture patterns, including agentic systems, Model Context Protocol (MCP), orchestration frameworks, retrieval architectures and AI governance.
- Experience evaluating emerging technologies and translating innovation opportunities into pragmatic architecture and product roadmaps.
- Strong commercial and strategic thinking, with experience supporting business cases, option assessments, vendor evaluations and investment decisions.
- Experience designing integrations across multiple enterprise platforms and data ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of enterprise data strategy, data governance, privacy, security and AI enablement.
- Excellent communication, leadership, facilitation and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders.
- Architecture certification such as TOGAF, ArchiMate or equivalent, with relevant cloud certification desirable.
- Experience with Adobe Experience Cloud, MS Dynamics, CDPs, DAM or comparable enterprise platforms.
