Convergent Research, founded in 2021, is a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating scientific progress through new models of research organization. The company recognized that many critical projects fall into a gap between academic research groups and venture-backed startups: too large and complex for a university lab, yet not profitable enough to attract private investment. To address this, Convergent Research pioneered the concept of Focused Research Organizations (FROs), time-limited, mission-driven entities designed to tackle ambitious scientific problems with the coordination and resources traditional institutions often lack. With a team of more than 50 employees, the organization continues to develop and support FROs that bridge this gap, enabling breakthroughs that neither academia nor industry could achieve alone.
