Carolina Beverage Corporation

Carolina Beverage Corporation is a privately owned food and beverage services company founded in 1917 in Salisbury, North Carolina, by general store owner LD Peeler. Peeler initially distributed a soft drink called Mint Cola, but during a sugar shortage brought on by World War I, he experimented with new flavors and created Cheerwine, which remains the company's primary product today. The business has stayed in Salisbury since its founding and continues to be managed by the Peeler family, with five generations having been involved in its operations. The company now employs more than 50 people, and in 2017 it celebrated the 100th anniversary of Cheerwine's creation.
