California School Employees Association

California School Employees Association (CSEA) is the largest classified school employees union in the United States, representing more than 250,000 school support staff across California. Founded in 1927 by a group of Oakland custodians seeking retirement security and workplace rights, CSEA has grown into a member-governed union with nearly 800 local chapters statewide. Its members perform essential roles in public schools and community colleges, including security, food services, clerical work, maintenance, transportation, and paraeducator and library services. In 2001, CSEA became an independently chartered union of the AFL-CIO, and today it is led by its Board of Directors, with Labor Relations Representatives and staff operating under the Executive Director. Headquartered at 2045 Lundy Ave, San Jose, California, CSEA employs more than 200 people and remains committed to improving the lives of its members, students, and communities.
