American Institute of Physics

Founded in 1931, the American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing, promoting, and serving the physical sciences for the benefit of humanity. Functioning as both a federation of physical science societies and an institute, AIP provides programs, products, and services that empower scientists to push the boundaries of knowledge. Its member societies span a wide range of disciplines, collectively representing more than 120,000 scientists, engineers, educators, and students worldwide, including organizations such as the American Physical Society, the American Astronomical Society, and the American Meteorological Society. In 2020, AIP launched the AIP Foundation to support initiatives preserving the history of physics and fostering a more equitable, accessible field for future generations. Headquartered at the American Center for Physics in College Park, Maryland, AIP employs more than 400 people and also oversees AIP Publishing, its wholly owned not-for-profit subsidiary.
