Who are we looking for?

The Peterborough, ON office of GHD is growing our team and is looking to add an Environmental Field Technician to our Contamination, Assessment and Remediation (CAR) team! The CAR team supports brownfield redevelopment projects, completes environmental site assessments, remediation programs, hydrogeological investigations and assessments, provides environmental services to public and private sector clients across Ontario, and develops and manages the long-term operation, maintenance, and monitoring of remedial systems and risk management measures.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Work in cooperation with multi-disciplinary project team to complete projects incorporating contaminated sites investigation and remediation, hydrogeological assessments, and geotechnical field programs.
• Organize field programs including coordination with chemists and laboratory vendors to order sample bottles and jars, and coordination with field equipment managers and equipment vendors to arrange for field equipment.
• Assist with field work, including environmental monitoring (soil, groundwater, surface water, etc.), coordination and review of utility locates and utility drawings, drilling oversight, surveying, remediation contractor oversight, etc.
• Recording field related notes using GHD digital data collection tools (e.g. field iPads).
• During office work, assist with data compilation, analysis, evaluation, and reporting under the supervision of a project manager.
• Communicate and liaison with vendors and contractors in field.

What you will bring to the Team:

• Recent College Diploma in an Earth Science, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology/Technician program or other relevant field.
• 0 to 3 years of experience. Previous field experience is an asset but not required.
• This position will require travel, primarily within southern and eastern Ontario. It is anticipated that this position will have up to 80% fieldwork and 20% office work. Certain field programs may take multiple days to complete field tasks.
• Valid First Aid/AED Training certification considered an asset.
• Candidate must own a reliable vehicle and hold a valid full G-Class driver’s licence.
• Self-starter and finisher, detail orientated, flexible, team player, and willing and able to do a wide variety of tasks.
• Positive attitude, safety-mindedness, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written).
• Strong organizational skills, ability to manage a variety of tasks and projects, and willingness to meet challenging deadlines.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel, and Outlook.

The salary for this position is $28.5/h The posted salary represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
