Home-based therapy gives you the opportunity to see the challenges patients face in their actual living environment and help them develop practical strategies for greater independence.

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage

Your Day-to-Day Role

As a PTA with Iowa Home Care, you'll help patients work toward the goals established by their Physical Therapist. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide physical therapy interventions in patients' homes according to the established plan of care
  • Carry out therapeutic exercises and activities designed to improve strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, and functional mobility
  • Assist patients with walking, transfers, positioning, and other functional movement activities
  • Provide gait and balance training as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist
  • Reinforce home exercise programs and teach patients and caregivers appropriate techniques
  • Observe how patients respond to treatment and communicate progress or concerns to the supervising PT
  • Identify and report changes in patient condition or functional status
  • Help patients safely use prescribed assistive and adaptive equipment
  • Reinforce strategies that promote fall prevention and a safe home environment
  • Complete accurate and timely visit documentation
  • Participate in communication and coordination with nurses, Physical Therapists, and other members of the care team
  • Maintain professional boundaries while building positive relationships with patients and families
  • Encourage patients throughout their rehabilitation journey and celebrate progress toward their individual goals

Why Home-Based Therapy?

  • See the Whole Picture: Treating patients in their homes gives you valuable insight into how they actually move and function in their everyday environment.
  • Build Meaningful Relationships: You’ll work one-on-one with patients and have the opportunity to encourage them throughout their recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Make Therapy Practical: Home-based care allows you to help patients apply therapeutic techniques to the activities they perform every day.

  • Help Patients Stay Independent: Your work can help patients improve mobility, reduce safety risks, and continue participating in the activities that are important to them.
