Job Description
At ALS, we encourage you to dream big.
When you join us, you’ll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future.
ALS Environmental Risk Services (part of ALS Global) is looking for practical, hands-on tradespeople or construction professionals who are ready to take the next step away from full-time tools and into a specialist field role.
This is not an office job. You’ll be working on active sites, conducting inspections, sampling, and testing for asbestos, and eventually other hazardous materials. Your industry experience will be highly valued, and full training and mentoring will be provided to build your skills as a HAZMAT consultant.
If you’ve worked on building sites and want a long-term career that still keeps you in the field—without swinging a hammer every day—this role is designed for you.
What You’ll Be Doing Day to Day
- Carry out on-site inspections and sampling for asbestos (ACM), mould, meth residue, lead paint, and other hazardous materials
- Perform air monitoring and clearance inspections following asbestos removal works
- Accurately complete Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation for laboratory analysis
- Prepare and handle samples and work closely with our laboratory teams
- Work alongside Senior Field Consultants, progressing daily inspection and testing schedules
- Record site findings and assist with reporting using our Octfolio digital platform
- Support Environmental and OH teams as required
- Produce clear, concise reports for clients (with mentoring and peer review)
- Travel across Queensland and interstate, including occasional night shifts and weekends
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking reliable, safety-focused people who understand construction environments and can work methodically in the field.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Trade, construction, asbestos removal, or building industry experience (highly regarded)
- A desire to move off the tools into a technical inspection and consulting role
- Advanced Microsoft Office 365 & general Windows PC skills
- Extremely high level of attention to detail
- Willingness to obtain Licensed Asbestos Assessor accreditation (full training provided)
- Open driver’s licence & Construction White Card
- QLD Blue Card (or willingness to obtain)
- Confidence working on active construction and remediation sites
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Right to work in Australia
Important to Know
This is a physically active, field-based role. You’ll be outdoors, on construction and industrial sites, carrying equipment and samples. If you’re looking for a desk-based or office-only role, this position will not be suitable.
