Job Description
Not your traditional Financial Accountant, this role gets you out of the finance department and into the business. Our client operates within the security services industry, with a large operational footprint and multiple branches that need to be financially viable, well managed and commercially sustainable. This role sits at the intersection of finance and operations, giving you visibility into how individual branches are performing and where the business needs to course-correct.
Reporting to the Financial Manager, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of operational finance activities, with around 60% of your time spent engaging with branches. You’ll analyse whether the business is profitable, investigate what is driving performance and work with operational teams to get things moving in the right direction. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to complete tasks, solve problems and help build the business, not simply prepare reports and wait for month-end.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse branch profitability and identify areas of underperformance
- Provide financial reporting and meaningful commentary to operational teams
- Spend significant time engaging with branches and understanding their financial performance
- Investigate variances, costs and profitability drivers
- Use FMR and the internal financial systems to extract and analyse information
- Support the Financial Manager with financial reporting and analysis
- Identify opportunities to improve financial and operational performance
- Work closely with branch and operational teams to implement corrective actions
- Complete financial and operational tasks from start to finish
- Supervise and support 1–2 indirect reports
Job Experience and Skills Required
- BCom Accounting
- Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles, SAICA articles will be advantageous
- 3–5 years’ experience without articles, or 2–3 years post-articles
- Financial Accounting, Operational Accounting or Financial Analyst experience
- Security industry experience highly advantageous
- Experience within a similar operational, branch-based or service environment will also be considered
- Strong financial analysis and reporting skills
- Good understanding of profitability and business performance
- Comfortable working with large operational teams and multiple branches
- Strong Excel skills
- Experience with FMR and/or internal financial systems advantageous
- Comfortable working onsite and travelling between operational sites
- Hands-on approach with the ability to follow through and get things done
