Description The SW Engineer Principal serves as an Edifecs Application Engineer, administering, configuring, troubleshooting, and enhancing the Edifecs platform to ensure reliable, secure, scalable, and compliant EDI transaction processing. This role provides hands-on technical leadership across Edifecs platform operations, healthcare EDI integrations, AWS cloud environments, performance optimization, and release management. The successful candidate will work closely with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, cloud teams, and business stakeholders to maintain operational continuity, resolve complex transaction-processing issues, implement platform enhancements, and support modernization initiatives.

The position requires deep Edifecs expertise, strong knowledge of healthcare EDI X12 transactions, and the ability to communicate technical recommendations and operational risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities Configure, administer, maintain, and enhance Edifecs platform components, including XEServer, XEngine, TPM, EDI Gateway, SpecBuilder, and related modules. Build, deploy, test, and optimize Edifecs processing rules, routing logic, maps, validation rules, orchestrations, and batch-processing workflows. Analyze and resolve complex EDI transaction-processing issues, including mapping defects, validation failures, functional errors, partner-specific rejection patterns, batch-job failures, and throughput or performance degradation. Perform root-cause analysis for production incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions that improve platform reliability, transaction quality, and operational efficiency. Configure and manage system logging, monitoring, JVM settings, memory utilization, SSL/TLS certificates, keystores, and other platform-security configurations. Optimize batch-job throughput, Edifecs engine performance, JVM memory allocation, execution workflows, and system-monitoring capabilities. Support high-availability and failover requirements, including monitoring, recovery activities, service-restoration procedures, and proactive identification of operational risks. Support release deployments, environment refreshes, patching, platform upgrades, configuration migrations, rollback activities, and post-deployment validation. Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot inbound and outbound EDI interface connectivity, including AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, API-based integrations, and gateway services. Coordinate with cloud and infrastructure teams on AWS EC2 sizing, operating-system tuning, storage I/O behavior, file-transfer endpoints, network routing, firewall dependencies, and network-path troubleshooting. Maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, EDI mapping documentation, operational runbooks, deployment procedures, troubleshooting guides, and migration plans. Participate in Agile planning, backlog refinement, sprint execution, issue resolution, and work tracking using JIRA or comparable tooling. Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, cloud teams, product owners, architects, vendors, and business teams to align platform capabilities with operational and business needs. Communicate technical architecture decisions, operational risks, performance trade-offs, and recommended solutions effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills Minimum of eight years of hands-on Edifecs product experience supporting EDI, healthcare, enterprise integration, or enterprise application operations. Minimum of eight years of software engineering, data engineering, application engineering, or related technical experience, including substantial AWS cloud experience. Deep hands-on experience supporting EDI X12 transaction standards and healthcare EDI workflows, including: 270/271 — Eligibility for a Health Plan Inquiry and Response 278 — Health Care Services Review Request and Response 834 — Benefit Enrollment and Maintenance 837 — Health Care Claim 835 — Health Care Claim Payment/Advice 999 — Implementation Acknowledgment Other applicable X12 transaction types and trading-partner workflows Strong understanding of Edifecs architecture, transaction lifecycles, application processing flows, and operational dependencies. Hands-on experience with the following Edifecs components: XEServer: Orchestrations, batch flows, execution contexts, and transaction-processing controls. XEngine: Validation, rulesets, canonical structures, mapping logic, and processing workflows. TPM: Trading-partner configuration, agreements, routes, certificates, and partner-management activities. EDI Gateway: Transaction visibility, audit tracking, search, exception management, and reprocessing. SpecBuilder: Implementation-guide definitions, map development, specifications, and configuration management. Experience managing EDI integration and interface operations for inbound and outbound transaction exchange through AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, API-based integrations, and gateway services. Strong diagnostic and root-cause-analysis experience involving transaction failures, mapping or alignment defects, validation errors, functional failures, trading-partner rejections, batch-flow errors, and performance bottlenecks. Experience with job-throughput optimization, engine performance tuning, JVM tuning, memory management, monitoring dashboards, proactive alerting, high availability, and failover orchestration. Strong AWS cloud experience, including: EC2 instance sizing and capacity considerations; Operating-system tuning and application-hosting configurations; Storage I/O analysis and file-processing performance; File-transfer endpoint administration and connectivity troubleshooting; Network routing, firewall coordination, and network-path debugging; and SSL/TLS certificate and keystore lifecycle management. Proficiency with Git and GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, version control, code review, and collaborative engineering workflows. Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools, including Ansible and/or Terraform. Working knowledge of healthcare EDI compliance, audit requirements, platform-security practices, and trading-partner governance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
