Job Description

About Us

1 in 25 adolescents and young adults will be diagnosed with serious mental illness. The majority of these families struggle to get care. Flourish (https://flourish.health/) is here to ensure that everybody gets the same access to great care.

About the Position

We are seeking a strategic, experienced Senior Manager of People Operations to join our People Operations team. This role is ideal for a seasoned HR leader who thrives in growing organizations, brings deep expertise in multi-state compliance and team management, and can lead the evolution of our People Ops function as we grow from a small to large organization.

You are a great fit for this role if you are both a strategic builder and hands-on operator. No employee request is too small for your attention, but you also bring a wealth of perspective on how we can build better HR team functions in a remote environment. You will oversee core People Ops functions spanning employee relations, benefits and HRIS administration, leave administration and compliance — while managing and developing a team of collaborative HR professionals. You must be mission-aligned and deeply committed to supporting teams doing incredibly important work in the mental health space.

Role Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop a team of HR professionals, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Build and scale the People Ops function to support organizational growth and health.
  • Be consistently hands-on while strategically delegating and training team members to take ownership of key functions as the team expands.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, regularly assessing and optimizing People Ops processes and systems.

HR & Employee Relations

  • Manage complex employee relations matters including disciplinary actions, investigations, and terminations.
  • Oversee FMLA administration, ADA accommodation requests, and other leave management programs across all organizations.
  • Conduct regular audits of HR practices, policies, and employee files to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Act as an escalation point for sensitive or high-stakes employee situations.
  • Model Flourish values in challenging moments and coach team members to do the same.

Multi-State Compliance & Risk Management

  • Oversee employment law compliance across multiple states, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Stay current on evolving employment legislation and proactively implement policy and process changes.
  • Partner with Director of People Operations on compliance matters and risk mitigation strategies.

Benefits & HRIS Management

  • Oversee benefits administration across multiple organizations, ensuring competitive and compliant offerings.
  • Manage annual benefits renewal processes, vendor relationships, and employee communications.
  • Lead open enrollment processes and serve as escalation point for complex benefits issues.
  • Oversee HRIS and ATS administration, ensuring data integrity and system optimization.
  • Develop and track key People Ops metrics to inform strategic decisions.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant employee records and documentation across all systems.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in People Operations or HR, with at least 3 years in a people management role.
  • Extensive experience managing complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions, investigations, and terminations.
  • Expert knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and other leave management programs.
  • Deep expertise in multi-state employment law compliance and risk management.
  • Demonstrated success scaling HR operations in a growing organization (mid-size to large company experience preferred).
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential matters.

Preferred

  • HR certification (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent).
  • Experience in healthcare, mental health, or mission-driven organizations.

Schedule

Schedule can be 8:30am-5pm or 9am-5:30 pm in Central Time to ensure crossover with employees across time zones. Employee may be based anywhere in the US but must be available to work this schedule.
