SOFTWARE ENGINEER 1

As a Software Engineer 1, you will build your engineering career in an environment where AI-assisted development is part of how we work every day. You will deliver well-defined features and improvements by combining code you write yourself with code generated with AI agents. Regardless of how the code is produced, you will be responsible for understanding it, testing it, and knowing the difference between output that is correct and output that simply looks correct.

This role is designed for an early-career engineer who has already started building with AI through coursework, internships, personal projects, hackathons, or professional experience and is ready to apply those skills in a production environment with real customers and real consequences. Strong engineering fundamentals matter even more in an AI-native environment: they allow you to tell an agent precisely what you need, evaluate what it produces, and develop the technical judgment that remains valuable regardless of how the tools evolve.

This is a fully remote position open to candidates eligible to work in the United States or Canada. Candidates will be required to complete initial onboarding onsite at our Concord, MA office.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Deliver clearly scoped features, bug fixes, and product enhancements by combining code you write yourself with AI agent-assisted development, owning the quality of the result either way.
• Build strong technical fundamentals across our stack so you can critically evaluate AI-generated code rather than assuming that clean-looking output is correct.
• Learn how to give AI agents the context they need—including clear requirements, relevant examples, constraints, and system context—to produce useful results.
• Practice spec-driven development by clearly defining intent, constraints, and acceptance criteria before implementation so a teammate, an AI agent, or your future self can understand exactly what needs to be built.
• Review AI-generated code critically for subtle failure modes, including missed edge cases, misunderstood requirements, incorrect assumptions, and violations of established system behavior.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable backend and frontend code that follows existing engineering patterns and conventions, and be able to explain why your implementation satisfies the requirements.
• Build independent debugging and engineering judgment by intentionally completing some work without AI assistance and developing the hands-on instincts required to diagnose problems yourself.
• Experiment regularly with new AI development tools and workflows, learning where they accelerate engineering work and where human judgment remains essential.
• Communicate progress, blockers, technical decisions, and lessons learned with your team, including where AI assistance was used and what your review process identified.
• Develop an understanding of Tripleseat's customers and business workflows so you can connect the software you build to real customer outcomes and recognize when a problem is—or is not—well suited to AI assistance.

WHAT YOU BRING

• 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent experience through internships, co-ops, coursework, hackathons, or substantial personal projects. Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including programming, data structures, algorithms, and basic system architecture. You understand that these fundamentals become more—not less—important when working with AI-generated code.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools beyond basic autocomplete. You are comfortable prompting, reviewing, debugging, and challenging AI-generated code rather than accepting it at face value.
• Curiosity about what AI genuinely does well and where it struggles, with an interest in developing your own understanding of which engineering tasks are appropriate for agent-assisted development.
• Some experience writing structured requirements, specifications, or acceptance criteria that another person—or an AI agent—could execute against.
• A quality-first mindset and working understanding of unit testing across backend and frontend development.
• Ability to work within a large, established codebase, follow existing conventions, and ask thoughtful questions when requirements or system behavior are unclear.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively in a remote-first environment.
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted software development combined with the rigor and skepticism to verify its work every time.

BONUS POINTS

• Personal, academic, internship, or professional projects involving agent frameworks, LLM APIs, autonomous coding tools, or other AI-assisted development workflows.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with AWS, DevOps practices, or cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with or enthusiasm for hospitality technology, event management, restaurants, hotels, or other operational SaaS products.

The salary for this role is $80,000 to $105,000 annually. Compensation is based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, technical skill set, AI development fluency, and geographic location, in alignment with our internal compensation framework. This role is also eligible for additional benefits and incentives.
