Build the data platform powering Akamai's cybersecurity solutions.

You will own backend and data-platform capabilities from design through production, working with Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, and BigQuery on Google Cloud. AI is a central part of how we work and what we build: we use AI coding assistants and agents extensively and integrate LLMs into security enrichment, triage, summarization, and investigation workflows.

In this role you will be:

• Building a new cutting-edge security product that protects millions of assets worldwide
• Owning technical decisions and delivery from requirements and design to testing, rollout, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Building and improve LLM-powered workflows, evaluating output quality, handling failures, and balancing accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Improving SQL performance, data models, orchestration, and cloud cost efficiency across a platform serving multiple customers and regions
• Using AI assistants and agents for development, investigation, testing, and documentation, validate their output and remain accountable for the result.
• Partnering with Security Research, Product, and R&D teams to deliver maintainable solutions that address security and customer needs.
• Mentoring engineers, reviewing code and designs, and strengthening testing, observability, and engineering practices.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 5+ years of software development experience, with good Python skills and experience owning production backend or data systems.
• Have deep SQL and data-modeling skills, including diagnosing and optimizing complex queries over large datasets.
• Have hands-on experience with cloud data platforms and workflow orchestration, using GCP, Apache Airflow, and BigQuery or equivalent technologies.
• Understand reliable pipeline design, including retries, idempotency, API integrations, data quality, and monitoring.
• Use AI development tools effectively: break down problems, provide useful context, critically review generated code, and verify behavior through tests and evidence.
• Be comfortable resolving ambiguous requirements, explaining technical tradeoffs, and collaborating across engineering and security teams.

Nice to have:

Experience integrating LLM APIs, designing prompts and structured outputs, and evaluating AI workflows on representative data. Experience with cybersecurity telemetry, detection pipelines, or products serving multiple customers. Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, or dashboard and reporting tools.
