Salary Range

$66,892.00 - $86,312.00 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Digital Experience, Platforms and Analytics, the Senior Programmer is responsible for the development, enhancement, maintenance, and technical support of enterprise and departmental web applications and digital platforms that support the University’s academic, administrative, and operational needs. This position performs advanced web application development and technical problem-solving within a diverse technology environment, including technologies such as PHP, Drupal, and SQL, and applies established development standards and practices to support secure, accessible, reliable, and sustainable digital services. Working collaboratively with technical teams, campus partners, and other stakeholders, the Senior Programmer analyzes requirements, develops and implements technical solutions, resolves complex application issues, and contributes technical expertise to the continued development and improvement of the University’s digital experience and technology ecosystem.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • (50%25) Web Application and Drupal Development: Analyze, design, develop, test, implement, and maintain web applications, utilities, and digital solutions for the University while complying with applicable industry, University, departmental, accessibility, security, and development standards.
  • (25%25) Application Support, Maintenance and Technical Improvement: Provide advanced technical support for web applications and digital platforms, independently diagnosing and resolving complex applications, Drupal, database, integration, configuration, and performance issues.
  • (15%25) Technical Leadership and Team Coordination: Work with the Assistant Director of Digital Experience, Platforms and Analytics to develop and advance strategic team initiatives, technical priorities, and improvements to the University’s web and digital platform environment.
  • (10%25) Project Collaboration and Campus Partnership: Consult and collaborate with campus departments, stakeholders, and technology teams to understand business needs, gather requirements, evaluate technical options, and develop appropriate web and digital solutions.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have professional experience designing, developing, and supporting database-driven web applications. Relevant education may substitute for professional experience on a year-for-year basis.

Demonstrated experience with web application development technologies, including PHP or a comparable server-side programming language; HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; and a web content management system such as Drupal.

It is necessary to have working knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including database design concepts, queries, normalization, indexing, and performance considerations.

Experience analyzing requirements, troubleshooting technical issues, and developing, modifying, and maintaining web applications within a collaborative development environment is required.

Professional experience is highly desired in the following areas:

  • Developing and supporting Drupal-based websites and applications, including configuration, themes, templates, modules, and custom functionality.
  • PHP and related frameworks, such as Laravel, and additional web technologies or data formats such as JSON, YAML, XML, or Python.
  • Linux/UNIX environments, web server technologies, cloud-based development or hosting platforms such as Pantheon, and DevOps or CI/CD practices.
  • Creating accessible web applications and integrations using APIs, web services, or related technologies.
  • Providing technical guidance, coordinating the work of student employees or other developers, or supporting technical initiatives in a higher education or similarly complex organizational environment.
