Senior Business Operations Leader

Location: Columbus, OH/Remote

Reports to: COO

Department: Business Operations

About Motion

At Motion, we are dedicated to delivering world-class solutions and operational excellence. As our organization grows, we are looking for a key operational leader to partner across all departments, streamline our workflows, and build a foundation for scalable, high-quality execution.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced, proactive Business Operations Director to design, document, and refine the operational backbone of Motion. In this role, you will work hand-in-hand with department leaders and ICs to map cross-functional workflows, write clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), establish compliance monitoring, and champion continuous improvement. Your mission will be to eliminate operational friction, capture lessons learned as we scale, and ensure every team across Motion operates efficiently and delivers world-class results.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Process Mapping & SOP Development: Collaborate with leaders across all departments (e.g., Engineering, Logistics/Procurement, Deployments, Sales, Finance/HR) to analyze existing workflows and document business processes. Author, structure, and maintain clear, accessible Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all key business activities. Establish a centralized, well-organized knowledge base for company policies, process documentation, and operational guides.
  2. Operational Compliance & Quality Assurance: Establish framework metrics and auditing routines to monitor process compliance across all teams. Partner with department managers to track adherence to established SOPs, identifying operational gaps or bottlenecks early. Implement corrective action plans and support teams in overcoming operational roadblocks.
  3. Continuous Improvement & Process Iteration: Facilitate regular post-project reviews and retrospective sessions to capture lessons learned. Continuously update and iterate on SOPs as teams grow, business requirements evolve, and technology advances. Drive cross-functional alignment to ensure every business unit consistently delivers top-tier outputs.
  4. Operational Efficiency & Scaling: Evaluate cross-departmental handoffs and workflows to streamline operations and reduce cycle times. Lead change management initiatives when rolling out new systems, software, or procedural updates across Motion. Serve as an internal consultant and advocate for operational rigor, clarity, and efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience: 4+ years of experience in business operations, SaaS based organizations, hardware deployments, or operational project management.

Documentation & Mapping: Proven track record of drafting high-quality SOPs, process maps, and operational frameworks for multi-departmental teams.

Cross-Functional Leadership: Exceptional ability to build rapport, influence without authority, and work effectively with team members at all organizational levels.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong capability to diagnose operational inefficiencies, analyze root causes, and implement measurable solutions.

Adaptability & Scaling: Experience operating in dynamic, growing environments where processes must evolve continuously.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for making complex workflows simple and actionable.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with process mapping and project management software (e.g., Lucidchart, Miro, Notion, Asana, Jira). Certifications in Lean Six Sigma, Agile, or Project Management (PMP) are a plus. Background in high-tech, engineering, hardware, or logistics environments.
