Risk analyst

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Risk Analyst based in United States.

This role is an opportunity to apply advanced analytics to credit risk, underwriting, and portfolio management in a fast-moving financial technology environment. You will analyze diverse financial, behavioral, and credit datasets to support both new-account decisions and ongoing risk monitoring. The position combines hands-on data analysis with a strong understanding of credit fundamentals and small-business financial performance. You will help identify emerging risk signals, refine underwriting approaches, and improve portfolio performance through data-driven insights. The role also contributes to product profitability analysis, including risk-adjusted returns, customer value, and credit losses. You’ll work cross-functionally with teams across risk, product, data, and finance, with significant ownership over analytical projects. This is a remote opportunity suited to an experienced analyst who enjoys solving complex problems and turning data into practical business decisions.

Accountabilities

• Analyze applicant information to support automated and manual credit underwriting decisions, using business financial statements, tax documents, banking data, and adjacent product activity.
• Evaluate financial and behavioral data from sources such as accounting platforms, banking integrations, and internal product systems to identify relevant risk indicators.
• Develop dashboards, analytical tools, and monitoring frameworks that surface real-time signals for underwriting and fraud detection.
• Monitor existing customer accounts after origination, analyzing spending, payment behavior, credit utilization, engagement, and other indicators of changing creditworthiness.
• Use internal data and third-party credit reports to identify emerging risks and assess trends in delinquency and payment performance.
• Develop behavioral segments, performance cohorts, and portfolio analyses to support proactive account management and risk strategy.
• Analyze the financial performance of an unsecured credit product, including interchange revenue, interest income, rewards costs, charge-offs, and other key P&L drivers.
• Build models to evaluate customer lifetime value, profitability segmentation, and risk-adjusted returns.
• Investigate drivers of credit losses and identify opportunities to improve portfolio margins and overall product economics.
• Communicate analytical findings and recommendations clearly to cross-functional stakeholders and contribute to risk management and product strategy.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data analytics, credit analytics, or a closely related analytical role, preferably within fintech, credit cards, SMB lending, or financial services.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and/or SAS, with practical experience using Python or R for exploratory analysis, modeling, or automation.
• Solid understanding of credit underwriting principles, risk analysis, and small-business financial analysis.
• Experience interpreting business financial statements, including P&L statements, balance sheets, tax returns, and cash-flow information from banking sources.
• Familiarity with credit bureau information and commercial credit reports.
• Ability to work effectively with varied and complex datasets and translate quantitative findings into actionable business insights.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to investigate drivers behind portfolio and credit performance.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
• Intellectual curiosity, ownership, and comfort operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities and analytical questions can evolve quickly.

Benefits

Salary: $120,000–$145,000 per year, with final compensation based on experience, work location, and interview performance. Full-time employment with benefits.
