Role Overview

The Product Manager is a core individual contributor responsible for owning product outcomes across discovery, delivery, and optimization. Product Managers at PlanSource operate at the intersection of business, technology, and user experience, translating strategy into valuable, usable, and scalable product solutions that help people choose, use, and manage their benefits more effectively.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Product Manager defines product vision and roadmap, leads cross‑functional execution with engineering and design partners, and uses data, research, and AI‑enabled insights to inform prioritization and decision‑making. This role plays a critical part in driving customer value, business impact, and continuous product improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Ownership

  • Own product vision, strategy, and roadmap for assigned product areas in alignment with company goals and strategy.
  • Identify and prioritize high‑impact opportunities based on customer needs, business outcomes, and technical feasibility.
  • Understand PlanSource’s competitive landscape and ensure products are differentiated, valuable, and aligned with our mission.
  • Balance short‑term delivery needs with long‑term product strategy and platform health.

Product Discovery & Problem Solving

  • Lead product discovery using established frameworks (e.g., opportunity‑solution trees, design sprints, discovery experiments).
  • Integrate user research, usability testing, client advisory input, market analysis, and data insights into product decisions.
  • Define clear problem statements, success metrics, and hypotheses to guide solution development.
  • Leverage AI tools to synthesize qualitative feedback, analyze patterns in user behavior, and accelerate discovery workflows, with critical review and judgment.

Product Delivery & Execution

  • Partner closely with engineering and design teams in an agile environment to deliver high‑quality product outcomes.
  • Define product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria with clarity and precision.
  • Lead backlog prioritization and sequencing to maximize customer and business value.
  • Partner with release management and operations to ensure smooth deployment, adoption, and post‑release validation.

Data, Metrics & AI‑Enabled Insight

  • Define, track, and analyze key product performance metrics to measure success and inform iteration.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate product performance and guide trade‑off decisions.
  • Apply AI‑enabled analysis tools to support trend analysis, forecasting, experimentation insights, and reporting, ensuring outputs are validated and responsibly used.
  • Translate data into clear narratives and recommendations for stakeholders.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, Client Management, Operations, and Business Operations to communicate product value and support go‑to‑market efforts.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the organization to gather requirements, manage dependencies, and align priorities.
  • Communicate product direction, progress, and outcomes clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Serve as a strong advocate for the user while balancing business and operational needs.

Process, Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously evaluate and improve product development processes, documentation, and team workflows.
  • Use AI tools to support documentation, backlog refinement, and synthesis of inputs where appropriate, maintaining accountability for final decisions.
  • Promote a culture of experimentation, learning, and outcome‑driven delivery.
  • Model PlanSource values in collaboration, ownership, urgency, curiosity, and reliability.

Success Indicators

  • Product outcomes deliver measurable customer and business value.
  • Roadmaps are clear, prioritized, and aligned with strategy.
  • Features are delivered efficiently and adopted successfully.
  • Product decisions are data‑informed and well reasoned.
  • Cross‑functional partners experience strong, clear product leadership.
  • Performance demonstrates readiness for Senior or Lead Product Manager responsibilities.
