Background: Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) is an international nonprofit with offices around the world working to improve protection for civilians caught in conflict zones. Our mission is to work with armed actors and civilians in conflict to develop and implement solutions to prevent, mitigate, and respond to civilian harm. We are advocates who believe that no civilian caught in conflict should be ignored, and advisors who provide practical solutions to prevent and respond to civilian harm. CIVIC and Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) are undertaking communications and advocacy campaign to amplify awareness of the human costs of the US war in Iran by telling compelling, human-centered stories about civilian harm.
Project Description & Scope of Work: To support the development of content amplifying these stories, CIVIC is seeking to recruit a Multimedia Production and Content Creation Consultant. The consultant will work closely with CIVIC and HRA to design documented testimonies, evidence, and advocacy messages into engaging visual and multimedia content for public dissemination. This will include the production of professional, high-resolution videos suitable for social media platforms, as well as graphics, carousel, and animated videos as required.
Based on documentation collected and curated by HRA, the consultant will collaborate with CIVIC to develop a creative storytelling approach, including visual style, format selection, and audience engagement strategies. The consultant will spearhead the production process, including visual design, video editing, motion graphics, subtitling, sound design, integration of photographs, video footage, interviews, and other source materials as relevant. The consultant will also consult on storyboarding and script development.
All products must adhere to conflict-sensitive and trauma-informed communications principles, ensuring that storytelling approaches do not expose contributors, affected communities, or partners to undue risk. The consultant will work iteratively with CIVIC and HRA throughout the process, incorporating feedback and revisions to ensure that final products align with project objectives, advocacy priorities, and ethical storytelling standards.
The consultant must preserve the factual and contextual integrity of testimonies and source materials. Any substantive editing, reconstruction, use of generative AI, synthetic imagery or audio, or alteration of documentary materials must receive prior written approval from CIVIC and must not misrepresent the experiences or statements of contributors.
Where publication may create protection, privacy, or security risks, the consultant should work with CIVIC and HRA to apply appropriate mitigation measures, including anonymization, blurring, voice alteration, removal of identifying information or metadata, and secure handling and transfer of source files.
Under the supervision of the US Director, the consultant will undertake the following activities:
