Level: Entry
Job Location: PBLWorks Home Office - San Rafael, CA
Salary Range: $60000.00 - $85000.00 Salary/year
The Marketing and Communications Associate is responsible for the successful planning and execution of marketing projects related to branding, digital marketing, and events to develop and deepen our relationships with our audiences by driving awareness of PBLWorks’ brand, products, and services. This position reports to the Chief Revenue Officer, who will provide direct mentorship and structured onboarding, making this a strong next step for someone early in their marketing career with a demonstrated track record of writing, design, digital media, and deadline-driven production.
The successful candidate believes in PBLWorks’ core values, is driven by our mission and vision, shares our commitment to advancing racial equity, and is comfortable breaking new ground to lead social change. 0–2 years of professional experience. Strongly preferred: significant experience in scholastic journalism — high school or college newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine, or similar student-run publication — in an editorial, design, or editor-in-chief capacity. This kind of experience (managing deadlines, writing and editing copy, laying out pages, coordinating with a team of contributors) is exactly the foundation this role is built on. Interest in or exposure to K-12 education or EdTech is a plus, not a requirement. A portfolio or work samples (articles, layouts, designs, social content) that show range in writing and visual storytelling. Comfort with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) is required. Experience with Adobe Suite (especially InDesign, from yearbook or newspaper layout) and Canva is a strong plus. Experience with email marketing tools (Account Engagement/Pardot) and CRMs (Salesforce) is a bonus — we’ll train on these. Demonstrated ability to see a project through from idea to finished product, on a deadline. Ability to work independently and manage one’s own workload and timelines once given direction, without needing close oversight on routine tasks. Bring a curious, data-informed mindset to continuous improvement.
The Marketing and Communications Associate is a remote position and may work from anywhere within the contiguous United States. Occasional travel may be required for team meetings and events (~1-2 times per year).
This full-time, non-exempt (paid hourly) role offers full health benefits (including medical, dental, and vision), a 403b, and life and disability insurance. PBLWorks offers competitive pay (commensurate with experience) and a generous benefits and time-off package. The base pay range for this position varies by geographic location of the successful candidate. PBLWorks is committed to internal pay equity and therefore does not negotiate outside of these stated ranges: Zone A (SF Bay Area, New York, Los Angeles): $75,000 - $85,000 Zone B (Boston, Seattle, Denver, Chicago): $67,500 - $76,500 Zone C (Dallas, Atlanta, Austin, Hawaii): $63,750 - $72,250 Zone D (Rest of U.S.): $60,000 - $68,000. Your zone is based on where you live, including for remote roles. Within each range, your offer will reflect your skills, experience, and internal pay equity. This role is eligible for overtime so the annualized pay may differ from the ranges noted above.
PBLWorks participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. We will only use E-Verify once a newly hired employee has accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9. As a company, we celebrate and embrace diversity. We actively seek a diverse pool of candidates in every hiring process. Buck Institute for Education is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, veteran status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability (in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act).
