Lead engineer / head of engineering

The Role

Navable is hiring a senior, hands-on Lead Engineer / Head of Engineering to own the technical foundation of the company. This is a foundational leadership role for an experienced full-stack engineer who wants real ownership across architecture, execution, AI strategy, and team building — with a clear path to leading Navable’s long-term engineering organization.

You will work directly with the Founder & CEO to:

• Scale and harden our core platform
• Architect systems built for financial accuracy, auditability, and security
• Execute on a roadmap of AI-powered products embedded directly into fund operations workflows
• Establish engineering standards and hire our early in-house team

In the near term, this role is deeply hands-on. You will write production code, own architectural decisions, manage external engineering resources, and establish engineering standards. Over time, you will hire and lead a growing in-house team.

While this is a remote role, candidates must be based in the U.S., with a strong preference for someone in the greater New York area.

What You’ll Own

• Architecture & Platform
• Own system architecture and technical roadmap
• Evolve our carry and compensation engine to support increasingly complex firm structures
• Ensure scalability, performance, and enterprise-grade reliability
• AI Product Execution
• Lead development of AI-based features that enhance workflows, automation, and decision support
• Translate real customer pain points into practical, production-ready AI solutions
• Establish the foundation for applied AI across the Navable platform
• Hands-On Development
• Write high-quality production code across frontend, backend, and infrastructure
• Lead technical refactors and improve developer velocity
• Security & Compliance
• Design secure systems appropriate for institutional financial clients
• Support SOC 2 and enterprise security requirements
• Engineering Leadership
• Manage current external engineering resources
• Define hiring needs and build Navable’s in-house engineering team
• Establish strong engineering culture and standards

Who You Are

• Senior full-stack engineer with early-stage startup experience
• Have owned architecture through periods of growth
• Comfortable across frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure
• Experienced building systems that handle sensitive financial or regulated data
• Excited about applying AI in structured, high-value enterprise workflows
• Thrive in high-ownership, ambiguous environments
• Want to build and lead an enduring engineering organization
