Industrial automation field service engineer

About the role

It’s Monday morning. You board a flight with a toolkit in your bag and a plan in your head. By noon, you’re on a plant floor, tracing a sensor fault on a PLC‑controlled packaging line. By Wednesday, you’ve swapped a motor, tuned a pneumatic circuit, and walked operators through a quick start checklist. Friday afternoon, you close your service report—and head home for the weekend.

Pioneer Desert Manufacturing is adding an Industrial Automation Field Service Engineer to install, troubleshoot, and repair industrial equipment at customer sites across the United States. This is a hands-on, on-site position—not remote work. You may live anywhere in the U.S.; there’s no relocation or daily commute to our Austin office.

What you’ll do

• Install and commission packaging machines and conveyor systems at customer facilities.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues; replace components as needed to restore uptime.
• Troubleshoot PLC‑controlled equipment; programming experience is not required.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety checks.
• Document each service visit clearly and completely.
• Train operators and maintenance teams on proper use and basic care.

Travel and schedule

Approximately 75% travel, typically departing Monday and returning Friday; most weekends at home. Primarily first shift with occasional overtime or weekend assignments. Company-paid airfare, hotels, and rental vehicles while traveling, plus a $65 daily meal allowance.

What you bring

• 3+ years in industrial maintenance or field service.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot motors, sensors, conveyors, and pneumatic systems.
• Comfort with PLC troubleshooting; programming not required.
• Valid driver’s license for travel between job sites.

Compensation

$35–$45 per hour, depending on experience.
