Job Description

Leidos is seeking a Remediation Engineer to support environmental investigation, remediation, and restoration projects under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA/Superfund) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) corrective action programs.

The Remediation Engineer will support technical design, regulatory documentation, field implementation, and coordination with clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams throughout the remedial lifecycle—from site characterization and remedy evaluation through remedial design, implementation, and long-term monitoring.

The successful candidate will independently execute defined project tasks while collaborating with engineers, scientists, geologists, project managers, and other technical specialists. Strong organizational, technical writing, and communication skills are essential.

This position may be performed remotely within the United States, subject to Leidos remote-work eligibility requirements, or based onsite in Reston, VA, or Twinsburg, OH.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support development of project plans and technical deliverables, including Project Management Plans (PMPs), Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) reports and cost estimates, Proposed Plans (PPs), Records of Decision (RODs), remedial design packages (30%, 60%, 90%, and 100%), Remedial Design/Remedial Action Work Plans (RD/RAWPs), and equivalent RCRA documents.
  • Support the design, field implementation, evaluation, and reporting of pilot and treatability studies for remedial technologies.
  • Evaluate and design remediation approaches, including groundwater extraction and treatment, in-situ chemical oxidation/reduction, enhanced bioremediation, soil vapor extraction, air sparging, dual-phase extraction, thermal treatment, permeable reactive barriers, excavation, capping, stabilization, and monitored natural attenuation.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, design specifications, calculations, technical evaluations, and cost estimates in support of remedial design and implementation.
  • Support preparation of technical and cost proposals, subcontractor scopes of work, and bases of estimate.
  • Coordinate with project teams, clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as required to support project execution.
  • Perform work in accordance with Leidos and client environmental, quality, and health and safety requirements.
  • Travel to project locations as needed to support field activities, site visits, and client and stakeholder meetings.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline and at least 4 years of relevant environmental engineering experience, or Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with demonstrated progress toward PE licensure.
  • Experience supporting projects under federal and state environmental regulatory frameworks, including CERCLA and RCRA.
  • Experience evaluating, designing, or implementing remedial technologies such as in-situ soil and groundwater treatment, groundwater extraction and treatment, thermal treatment, soil vapor extraction, air sparging, dual-phase extraction, permeable reactive barriers, excavation, capping, stabilization, dredging/sediment remediation, and monitored natural attenuation.
  • Experience with the investigation or remediation of contaminants such as PFAS, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), explosives, metals, PCBs, and pesticides/herbicides in soil, groundwater, surface water, and/or sediment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and technically sound project documentation.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project, and experience with environmental data or geospatial tools such as EQuIS, ArcGIS, or similar applications.
  • Valid driver's license.

Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required.

Please be advised that during the interview, you will be required to keep your camera on, and your interviewer will be taking your picture for identification purposes if an offer letter is extended to you.
