Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Quality Assurance based in the United States.

The Director of Quality Assurance will lead the evolution of quality engineering across a multi-tenant SaaS platform in a regulated healthcare environment. This strategic leadership role focuses on integrating AI-driven testing into the software development lifecycle while maintaining reliability, security, and regulatory compliance. You will scale modern test automation, optimize quality delivery, and support multiple product launches and continuous feature releases in parallel. Working closely with Engineering, Product, Security, DevOps, and Compliance, you will establish measurable quality standards that accelerate delivery without compromising customer trust. You will also lead a geographically distributed organization of in-house engineers and external vendor teams across multiple time zones. This is an opportunity to modernize quality engineering practices, develop high-performing teams, and help deliver dependable technology that advances human health.

Accountabilities:

The Director of Quality Assurance will define the quality strategy, lead organizational transformation, and ensure consistent delivery standards across the product portfolio. Key responsibilities include:

  • AI-Driven Quality Strategy: Integrate generative and predictive AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle, including AI-assisted test creation, requirements analysis, and automated risk-based test coverage.
  • Quality Throughput and Capacity: Scale testing capacity to match accelerated development output while protecting product quality. Track cycle time to release, escaped defect rates, automated test coverage, and full regression suite runtime.
  • Modern Test Automation: Lead the evolution of automation frameworks, prioritizing Playwright and AI-powered self-healing infrastructure to improve reliability and reduce maintenance. Address tenant isolation, data segregation, configuration-driven testing, and shared-schema regression risks.
  • Quality Organization Leadership: Oversee the QA function, ensuring continuous validation, platform stability, and alignment with modern quality engineering practices.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Quality: Maintain QA processes, documentation, and evidence that meet applicable healthcare and data protection requirements, including HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, GxP/CSV, SOC 2, and GDPR. Represent the quality function during internal and customer audits.
  • Validation of AI-Generated Test Assets: Establish review, approval, traceability, and evidence frameworks to ensure AI-assisted test artifacts meet the standards required in validated environments.
  • Security-Focused Testing: Partner with Security and DevOps to integrate SAST/DAST, dependency checks, vulnerability triage, and penetration testing into delivery pipelines. Ensure protected health information (PHI) is appropriately handled and de-identified in test environments.
  • Distributed Team and Vendor Management: Lead in-house and outsourced QA teams across time zones, establish consistent performance expectations, and maintain effective relationships with vendors, tool providers, and staffing partners.
  • Strategic Roadmap Execution: Deliver quality initiatives aligned with organizational priorities while improving the cost efficiency and scalability of the QA function.
  • Multi-Product Release Management: Own quality plans for concurrent launches, parallel release trains, phased deployments, and feature-flagged rollouts. Establish clear release-readiness criteria without creating unnecessary delivery bottlenecks.
  • Talent Development: Recruit, mentor, and develop QA leaders and engineers, building expertise in AI-driven testing and modern automation technologies.
  • Defect and Metrics Management: Monitor defects, establish continuous improvement processes, and provide Engineering leadership with actionable, data-driven insights into quality and organizational performance.
  • Budget and Resource Planning: Manage the QA budget and contribute to financial planning, capacity forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Development, Product, Support, Compliance, Sales, Professional Services, executive stakeholders, and current or prospective customers.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced quality engineering leader who combines technical depth with organizational leadership, strong regulatory knowledge, and a proven ability to modernize established QA practices. Required qualifications and capabilities include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 10 years of QA experience.
  • At least 5 years of management experience at Director level or in an equivalent senior leadership role.
  • Experience leading quality engineering within a regulated healthcare or life sciences environment, including exposure to HIPAA and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.
  • Direct experience building and leading QA for a multi-tenant SaaS product.
  • Demonstrated success introducing AI-assisted testing into an established organization.
  • Hands-on experience implementing AI tooling across the SDLC, including AI-assisted test generation and self-healing test runners.
  • Strong expertise in Playwright at scale within CI pipelines, modern web and API automation, and API or contract testing.
  • Sound judgment in determining when AI-generated testing assets are appropriate for validated and regulated environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle and the integration of quality engineering into Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through significant tooling and process changes while maintaining delivery throughput and employee engagement.
  • Experience managing distributed and offshore QA teams, including in-house employees and vendor-supplied contractors, as well as selecting, onboarding, and overseeing external QA partners.
  • Strong executive communication skills, including presenting quality metrics, strategic progress, and performance insights to senior and C-level stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to compliance, documentation, validation, and execution standards.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple time zones and support a distributed organization.
  • US-based candidates are preferred. The role is remote, and some travel may be required.

Benefits:

Annual salary range of $185,000–$205,000 USD.

  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance.
  • 100% coverage of employee health insurance premiums.
  • 50% coverage of dependent health insurance premiums.
  • Flexible work schedules and locations, supporting work-life balance.
  • Remote, home-based working arrangement.
  • A collaborative environment that values innovation, continuous improvement, and high-quality customer experiences.
  • Opportunities to contribute to technology that supports advances in human health.
