About the Role
Lead multiple product engineering squads at a growth-stage education technology company focused on school scheduling. Reporting to the CTO, you will guide technical direction and product delivery while staying hands-on as the organization grows.
What You'll Do
- Lead multiple product squads, managing engineers and other engineering leaders while driving delivery across their areas.
- Contribute code, review work, and pair with engineers, starting with an approximately even split between hands-on engineering and leadership, then shifting toward a more leadership-focused role over time.
- Make and deliver architectural decisions that support a robust, scalable platform.
- Partner with product and other cross-functional teams to set goals and connect engineering priorities to business outcomes.
- Deliver valuable product features, including advancing AI-powered capabilities.
- Travel for company retreats twice a year and additional business trips, approximately two to four times a year.
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years of engineering experience and 3 or more years of engineering management experience.
- Experience leading and scaling multiple engineering teams, including teams of 6 or more engineers and, ideally, other managers.
- Strong backend architecture and design skills, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and remain hands-on.
- Proficiency with TypeScript or Python, and experience with React, AWS, and MongoDB.
- Experience connecting technical decisions to product and business outcomes in a startup or high-growth environment.
- Background in education technology or related learning and teaching fields, and an interest in mission-driven work and applying AI.
