Redhawk Federal has an immediate opening for an experienced Cloud Application Engineer to support the Library of Congress. This is a remote position but interested candidates must live in the proximity of Washington, D.C., or a reasonable commuting distance to attend meetings if necessary.
This position will be responsible for cloud engineering services for designing, deploying, administering, and maintaining secure, scalable cloud-based environments and enterprise applications that support mission operations and digital transformation initiatives. These services combine cloud-based development environment management on Amazon WorkSpaces and Microsoft Windows 365 Cloud PC, Microsoft SQL Server administration, Atlassian Jira and Confluence operations and maintenance, application deployment on AWS and Azure, Infrastructure as Code, and secure development practices.
The Engineer shall also support the enterprise applications that run on these platforms, including integration of artificial intelligence capabilities, to deliver reliable, modern web applications and enterprise services. The Engineer shall serve as the technical lead for cloud-hosted web applications, APIs, AI-enabled services, and enterprise automation, work closely with cybersecurity, cloud engineering, infrastructure, networking, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, resilient, and highly available solutions that meet federal cybersecurity and operational requirements.
The Engineer shall support two primary application environments:
- Setting up and managing cloud-based development environments using Amazon WorkSpaces or Microsoft Windows 365 Cloud PC.
- Microsoft SQL Server, including database administration.
Requirements: The Engineer shall perform the following tasks:
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain cloud-based development environments on Microsoft Azure using Windows 365 Cloud PC (Windows 11), including image management, user provisioning, access controls, and developer tooling.
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain cloud-based development environments on Amazon WorkSpaces, including bundle and image management, user provisioning, directory integration, and developer tooling.
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server instances, including installation and configuration, security and access management, backup and recovery, performance tuning, monitoring, and patching.
- Integrate enterprise applications with Microsoft 365, AWS, and third-party services.
- Support deployment and configuration of cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tooling (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK), in coordination with the cloud engineering team.
- Perform operations and maintenance (O&M) and administration of the organization’s Atlassian Jira and Confluence environments, including user and access management, project and workflow configuration, upgrades and patching, backup and recovery, performance monitoring, and integration with other enterprise tools.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field. Five to eight years developing enterprise web applications and cloud-native solutions. Someone with far more experience still qualifies, but the dates need to show at least five years. Microsoft SQL Server administration. Address all five named areas: installation and configuration, security, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and patching. Designing, deploying, and managing cloud development environments on Amazon WorkSpaces or Windows 365 Cloud PC. The minimum qualification says “or,” but the Section 2.4 tasks require both, so a candidate with both is much stronger. AWS services and serverless architectures, plus Microsoft Azure services. Atlassian Jira and Confluence administration, specifically user and permission management, workflow configuration, and system upgrades. Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) and Docker. Kubernetes counts as a plus. DevSecOps pipelines and secure software development. Knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks and cloud compliance. Naming FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53, or similar work concretely helps here. US Citizen
