Job Responsibilities

Power Solutions Group, A Sunbelt Solomon Company, is seeking a Business Development Director to grow our electrical testing and field services business within the data center market. This role develops new opportunities and expands key accounts by selling NETA acceptance and maintenance testing, electrical commissioning support, and related power system services. The director works closely with operations, estimating, and technical teams to secure profitable work that supports reliable startup and continued operation of mission critical electrical infrastructure.

New Business Development

Develop and execute a data center growth strategy targeting hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise owners, developers, general contractors, electrical contractors, engineering firms, and commissioning providers. Identify and qualify opportunities across new construction, campus expansions, equipment upgrades, and operating facilities; engage customers early to understand project specifications, schedules, procurement requirements, and decision makers. Promote acceptance testing aligned with applicable ANSI/NETA ATS specifications, maintenance testing aligned with applicable ANSI/NETA MTS specifications, and commissioning support within the company’s capabilities. Work with technical teams to develop opportunities involving medium and low voltage switchgear, transformers, breakers, protective relays, cables, automatic transfer switches, and associated electrical distribution equipment. Coordinate estimates and proposals with operations and technical experts. Clarify equipment quantities, testing scope, schedule, site requirements, exclusions, and commercial terms before negotiating and closing contracts. Pursue recurring maintenance agreements and follow-on services, including troubleshooting, protection and controls testing, power system studies, and outage support where offered.

Key Account Management

Build and maintain account plans and relationships with construction, procurement, engineering, facilities, and operations leaders at strategic data center customers. Coordinate with regional sales and operations teams to support multi-site customers, maintain consistent service commitments, and expand relationships across campuses and markets. Provide a complete handoff to project teams, including customer expectations, contracted scope, milestones, documentation requirements, and site access constraints. Monitor customer satisfaction, help resolve commercial issues with project and operations leaders, and turn successful projects into repeat business.

Market Development and Sales Planning

Track data center construction activity, capital projects, competitor positioning, and customer buying patterns to prioritize pursuits and recommend service expansion. Represent the company at data center industry events, customer meetings, and trade associations; partner with marketing on materials that explain the value of independent electrical testing and qualified technical personnel. Maintain accurate CRM records, account plans, opportunity stages, proposal activity, and forecasts. Contribute to budgets and revenue, bookings, and gross margin goals. Review pipeline quality, win rates, account growth, and profitability with leadership; adjust sales priorities based on results.

Qualifications

At least 3 years of sales or industry experience in electrical testing, electrical power systems, technical field services, or a related engineering services business. Demonstrated success acquiring, retaining, and expanding customer accounts and managing complex technical sales from qualification through contract award. Working knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and the ability to read one-line diagrams, interpret project specifications, and discuss testing scopes with technical teams. Familiarity with NETA acceptance and maintenance testing requirements and their application to new and existing electrical installations. Strong proposal development, negotiation, account planning, forecasting, and territory management skills. Effective communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and collaborate across sales, estimating, engineering, and operations. Experience with CRM systems, estimating or quoting platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience selling electrical testing or commissioning services for data centers or other mission critical facilities. Established relationships with data center owners, electrical contractors, general contractors, engineering firms, or commissioning providers. Understanding of phased energization, construction turnover, testing documentation, planned outages, and the operating priorities of facilities requiring high availability. Experience working for or with a NETA Accredited Company; prior technical field experience or NETA technician certification is a plus.

Travel and Employment Requirements

Ability to travel at least 60% of the time throughout the assigned region and nationally as required for customer meetings, site visits, and industry events.
