Job Description

The Area Environmental Specialist will help drive environmental excellence across multiple manufacturing facilities. In this highly visible role, you'll partner with plant leadership teams to ensure environmental compliance, reduce risk, advance sustainability initiatives, and support continuous improvement efforts. The Area Environmental Specialist will:

• Partner with plant leaders to ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and company standards.
• Provide technical support for air, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste management, and sustainability programs.
• Conduct environmental audits, assessments, and compliance reviews across multiple facilities.
• Identify compliance risks, develop corrective actions, and help drive environmental improvement plans.
• Support regulatory inspections, environmental reporting, and agency interactions.
• Track environmental performance metrics and sustainability initiatives.
• Coach and train facility leadership on environmental best practices and compliance requirements.
• Share best practices and help strengthen environmental management systems across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, EHS, or a related field - REQUIRED
• 5+ years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience conducting environmental audits and compliance assessments.
• Working knowledge of the Clean Air Act, Title V permitting, and related environmental programs.
• Proven ability to lead environmental initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
• Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to influence, coach, and collaborate with teams at all plant levels.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Approximately 50% travel required.

Additional Information

What we offer at O-I:

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is between $120,000 - $140,000 and includes a possible 10% short-term incentive bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
