Job Summary

The State of Colorado OIT is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support its Business Intelligence (BI) Program. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Power BI development, data modeling, DAX, data integration, report optimization, and Power BI Service, along with the ability to work closely with business and technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather and analyze business requirements for reports, dashboards, visualizations, and underlying data models.
• Identify relevant data sources and attributes needed for BI solutions.
• Design and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Develop reusable Power BI semantic models with appropriate row-level and column-level security.
• Create table relationships and optimize data structures for performance.
• Connect Power BI to multiple data sources, including SQL databases, APIs, BigQuery, ArcGIS, Excel, and streaming datasets.
• Develop data transformations and ensure reliable data extraction and connectivity.
• Write advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, and custom calculations.
• Design interactive Power BI reports and dashboards using slicers, drill-throughs, ArcGIS visuals, and other visualizations.
• Troubleshoot and optimize report and model performance using DAX Studio and Power BI performance tools.
• Publish and manage reports through Power BI Service, including access controls and scheduled refreshes.
• Use Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer to support Power BI modeling and DAX best practices.
• Leverage AI tools to improve data analysis and BI workflows; Google AI experience is a plus.
• Follow organizational source-control and version-control processes for Power BI files and utilize Azure DevOps as appropriate.
• Collaborate with the OIT Integrations team on available integration patterns.
• Work with cross-functional teams to gather changing requirements and manage backlog items.
• Present technical concepts, reports, and data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
• Conduct working sessions, screen-sharing meetings, requirement discussions, and stakeholder presentations.

• Experience with Power BI Service, security, access management, and scheduled refreshes.
• Experience connecting Power BI to multiple data sources.
• Strong SQL and data analysis skills.
• Experience with report and model performance optimization.
• Intermediate-to-advanced Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Experience gathering and translating business requirements.
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Experience with Azure DevOps/source control processes.

Location Requirement

Candidate must currently reside in Colorado or be willing to relocate/commute. Work may be performed remotely, but the contractor must work from within the State of Colorado. Candidates located in the Denver Metropolitan Area are preferred. Occasional in-person meetings at State offices may be required.
