Background

UNICEF Haiti is seeking a colleague to provide temporary support to its Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) programme. The assignment will contribute to the planning, implementation and monitoring of priority interventions for children affected by humanitarian emergencies, working closely with the Child Protection team and relevant field colleagues.

The assignment offers an opportunity to gain practical experience supporting a complex humanitarian response, while contributing existing skills and expertise to the Haiti Country Office. A focused workplan will be agreed at the beginning of the assignment, taking into account the colleague’s experience, level, availability and working arrangements. It will identify a limited number of achievable priorities and deliverables for the six- to eight-week period.

Purpose of the Position

Under the guidance of the Chief Child Protection, and in collaboration with designated technical focal points, the selected colleague will contribute to the following areas. The emphasis will be adapted to the agreed workplan.

  1. Support CPiE planning and prioritisation
  2. Support programme implementation and partner follow-up
  3. Strengthen monitoring, analysis and reporting
  4. Contribute to coordination, knowledge sharing and handover

Supervision and feedback:

The incumbent will report to Chief, Child Protection, UNICEF Haiti, who will agree on priorities, provide regular guidance and review progress. Technical support will be provided by CPiE Specialist and CP Officer.

Duration

This stretch assignment will be for a period of 6 to 8 weeks.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience of Successful Candidate:

  • A university degree in social sciences, social work, psychology, human rights, international development, law or another relevant field. An advanced university degree is an asset.
  • Relevant professional experience in child protection programme planning, implementation, monitoring or technical support, commensurate with the candidate’s current level.
  • Practical experience in child protection in emergencies or humanitarian programming is strongly desirable.
  • Experience in one or more relevant technical areas, such as community-based child protection, psychosocial support, case management, family tracing and reunification, or prevention and response to violence against children, would be an asset.
  • Ability to analyse programme information and produce clear, practical workplans, monitoring tools and written inputs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across locations, manage competing priorities and deliver agreed outputs within a short timeframe.
  • Working proficiency in French or in English is required. Knowledge of Haitian Creole would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF programme processes, results-based management and relevant reporting tools would be an advantage.
