Electrical / Automation Technician

Location: Cape Town

Are you the kind of technician who thrives on solving breakdowns, optimizing automation systems, and ensuring production never misses a beat? A well-established manufacturing and recycling operation is looking for an experienced Electrical / Automation Technician to play a critical role in maintaining and improving plant performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on production equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve PLC, automation, and control system faults.
• Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
• Improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Assist with continuous improvement and automation projects.
• Support commissioning, upgrades, and modifications of plant equipment.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintenance procedures.
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to optimize plant performance.

Minimum Requirements

• Trade Tested Electrician or relevant Electrical qualification.
• Minimum 8 years' experience in a maintenance environment within manufacturing, processing, recycling, packaging, or heavy industry.
• Strong PLC troubleshooting and fault-finding experience.
• Experience with automation systems, control panels, VSDs, sensors, and instrumentation.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Proven track record of reducing downtime and improving equipment reliability.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced production environment.

Advantageous

• Experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley, or Schneider PLCs.
• Experience working in a continuous production or industrial processing environment.
• Exposure to SCADA systems and industrial networks.
