BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE APPOINTMENT:

WFP, in collaboration with its partners provides food and nutrition assistance to the most vulnerable populations through provision of nutritious fortified foods and strengthening livelihoods to improve sustainable access to food. In addition, WFP implements programs that address the root causes of hunger, build community resilience, and promote self-reliance in the face of shocks and crises.

WFP seeks to recruit a Programme Associate - Nutrition. Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Officer, the Programme Associate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of WFP’s programmes that effectively address the assistance needs of vulnerable populations, particularly while ensuring the WFP supported nutrition response is timely, appropriate and in alignment with set SOPs and protocols.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer, Programme Associate will be responsible for;

  • Timely monthly reporting & follow-up of respective Field Offices (Fos) and Cooperating Partners (CP) on implementation and reporting
  • Ensure regular/timely submission of respective monthly reports
  • Support timely initial review of narrative reports provided by CPs and FOs, highlighting any issues that require attention
  • Review, verify, compile respective CP Food Release Notes (FRNs)/Distribution Plans (DPs) and submit to Supply Chain (SC) team for processing as per deadline
  • Prepare FRN estimation when required to manage commodity pipeline planning and prioritization
  • Contribute to the production and distribution of periodic success stories, as well as the creation of advocacy briefs and leaflets.
  • To coordinate with SC and FOs to discuss and address relevant issues
  • Timely follow up of nutrition commodities’ pipeline to advise management on the specialized nutritious foods issues/shortage for timely delivery.
  • Follow up operational issues reported by FOs, CPs and/or logistics unit.
  • Follow issues of delayed Waybill submission, damaged commodities, expiry commodities, delayed deliveries on monthly basis.
  • Highlight the key logistics issues that need management attention
  • Participate in the meetings with SC unit to discuss any pending /escalated issues sharing significant updates with the head of unit/Nutrition officer for their support when required
  • Coordinate with the Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation (MLE) unit and FOs to monitor nutrition related activities and report on important/critical findings
  • Review and devise solutions for FO and CP MLE findings on hotlines and monitoring visits
  • Participate in meetings with MLE including Third Party Monitoring (TPM) meetings to understand priorities and challenges.
  • Conduct regular physical and remote monitoring (where applicable) and share reports on nutrition sites, providing support and recommendations
  • Build TPMs focal points capacity to conduct monitoring on nutrition activities,
  • Build the FO and CP capacity to meet Field Level Agreement (FLA) obligations and ensure quality implementation and reporting
  • Train FOs and CP focal points in programme implementation, reporting, and any other relevant sessions.
  • Follow up with the respective FOs on CP training implementation as per FLA
  • Review respective training documents & budgets before sharing with supervisors.
  • To Assist in developing and implementing Social Behavioral Change (SBC) activities
  • Assist in developing a comprehensive SBC action plan and contribute to leading its implementation
  • Support Nutrition officer in reviewing relevant SBC documents/manuals, whenever applicable.
  • Coordinate with partners to ensure that all SBC activities are executed in a timely manner, maintaining quality, and within the allocated budget. standards
  • Collaborate closely with CPs to monitor project progress and ensure that project outputs are documented and shared in all reporting including at the Nutrition Cluster level
  • Support the integration of CBT modalities into nutrition programming
  • Support development of implementation plans, SOPs, and guidance documents for CBT Nutrition
  • Coordinate beneficiary targeting and registration for CBT Nutrition Integrated programmes
  • Ensure integration of nutrition services with SBC activities.
  • Monitor delivery performance and operational challenges
  • Document lessons learned and best practices

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

University degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine or other relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 6 years' experience, composed of a minimum of 4 years of field experience with nutrition/health/food security or related field. Experience working with the UN or an INGO is an added advantage and 2 years in related field.

Familiarity with nutrition interventions (treatment of severe or moderate acute malnutrition, prevention, screening and nutrition assessment), specialized nutritious products, and nutrition data analysis.

Knowledge & Skills:

Knowledge of global nutrition and global humanitarian architecture including the cluster approach.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement nutrition and/or multi-sectoral programmes.

Strong skills in coordination and capacity strengthening, and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including NGO partners and the health authorities.

Experience in nutrition programming, cash-based transfers and Social Behavioral Change

Conceptual knowledge of nutrition in emergencies.

Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural settings and teams.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Microsoft Proficient.

Languages:

Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic is required
