The Technical Operations Trainer

The Technical Operations Trainer is responsible for developing, managing, and delivering comprehensive training programs that support the operations, maintenance, safety, and administrative processes of QTS regional data center facilities and its operations. By blending hands-on technical instruction with program management you will ensure Technology Operations team members are consistently trained, competent, and compliant, enabling safe, reliable, and efficient data center operations.

The Impact You Will Have:

This role plays a key part in ensuring our Technology Operations teams within the data center facilities we manage, are well trained, up to date with procedures, and positioned with success through the use of knowledge and education. With your primary focuses on delivering onboarding and technical skills training for Technology Operations employees, the Technical Operations Trainer will also spend a significant portion of non-facilitation time dedicated to curriculum improvement, content development, and learning program enhancement initiatives.

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitate instructor-led, virtual, and hands-on training programs that support Technical Operations onboarding, employee development, and operational readiness. These training programs cover operational processes, customer support practices, tools, technologies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to learners throughout onboarding and development programs.
  • Support new hire onboarding through classroom instruction, guided discussions, practical exercises, demonstrations, and job-shadowing activities.
  • Create an engaging learning environment that encourages participation, knowledge retention, and continuous learning.
  • Assist with the creation, maintenance, and improvement of training materials, job aids, presentations, learning plans, and knowledge resources by working with subject matter experts, senior trainers, and managers.
  • Translate technical concepts into learner-friendly content that supports employees with varying levels of experience and technical knowledge.
  • Support the administration and maintenance of learning content within approved learning management systems and collaboration platforms.
  • Help identify learning gaps and recommend supplemental training, coaching opportunities, or learning resources.
  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure training activities align with departmental procedures and business needs.
  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance documentation, completion tracking, and certification status information.
  • Schedule training sessions, coordinate logistics, and communicate training requirements to learners and leaders.
  • Support audits and documentation reviews by ensuring training records remain organized and current.
  • Collect learner feedback and assist with evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Recommend updates to training materials, onboarding processes, and learning resources based on operational changes and learner needs.
  • Remain current on Technology Operations and Learning and Development processes, technologies, systems, and organizational standards.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time to support regional training activities and onboarding programs.

What You Will Need To Be Successful:

  • Three or more years of experience in Technology Operations, Operations Support, Data Center Operations, IT Operations, Facilities Operations, or a related technical environment.
  • One year of experience delivering training, coaching, mentoring, onboarding, or facilitating knowledge transfer within a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, collaboration tools, and business systems.
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities while supporting learners, stakeholders, and training schedules.
  • Experience supporting onboarding or employee development programs.
  • Experience in data center operations, technical support, network operations, or other critical-environment industries is preferred.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS), Workday Learning, Articulate, or similar learning technologies is preferred.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Education, Business Operations, or a related field, or equivalent working experience is preferred.
  • Professional certifications related to training, technical operations, customer service, IT industry or instructional delivery is preferred.
