Systems analyst or systems administrator - institute for vision research

Position Summary:

The Institute for Vision Research is seeking an IT Systems Analyst to provide direct management, configuration, and maintenance of multiple servers (mostly Linux, some Windows). Duties will include: installing and updating operating systems and packages on new and existing systems, regularly reviewing security scans, managing cryptographic certificates.

Key areas of responsibility:

• Analysis and design, implementation, documentation, support, and relationship management.
• Identifies, installs and configures server hardware in institutional data centers.
• Refers unresolved support requests to Senior IT Personnel.
• Ability to learn and apply new software applications.
• Regularly evaluates security scans and applies necessary remediation.
• Troubleshoots server problems and helps deploy new systems.
• Manages data backup and archival.
• Assists with general IT issues as needed.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Required:

• Experience building and managing Linux servers (Alma/Centos/RHEL).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex workflow problems and recommend solutions.
• Experience developing and maintaining custom bash scripts for automating recurring jobs.
• Experience configuring and using network file services on Mac/Linux/Windows clients is required.
• Knowledge of network and computer security concepts.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience installing and managing Windows servers.
• Experience using Active Directory services is desired. (w/ Samba, Mail, etc)
• Experience with ZFS is desirable.
• Experience configuring and managing network file services with Samba.
• Experience with building and running virtual machines. (Kernel-based VM, QEMU, Xen)
• Experience configuring and managing Apache and nginx is desirable.
• Experience with backup and archival strategies is desired. (rsync, disk redundancy, md5)
• Experience with remote KVMs.
• Experience building and deploying Docker images is desirable.
• Experience creating and renewing SSL certificates.
• Experience with Python is desirable.
