Job Overview

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room at our Woodwinds Hospital located in Woodbury, MN. This position is 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on the day shift. Shift times are 630AM - 3PM, 9AM - 530PM, and 1030AM - 7PM. This position does have call requirements. Call requirements are above FTE, 30-minute call time (onsite call room available as well).

This role is open to new grads.

About our OR at Woodwinds:

We perform approximately 2,000 total joints a year including sophisticated revisions in our 6 innovative Operating Rooms and 1 Procedure Room. We average 15 - 25 cases per day. Our specialties include, but are not limited to, Orthopedics, General, Gynecology, Neuro/spine, Podiatry, Orthopedic Spine, Urology, Vascular, and ENT. Woodwinds has 82 beds in total so if you are looking for a small, community hospital, this is the perfect position for you! Responsibilities

• Serves as scrub person during operative procedures
• Anticipates surgeon’s needs
• Supplies appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
• Maintains aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Assures proper identification and handling of specimens.
• Completes all required sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
• Follows appropriate action in emergency situations.
• Provides patient care
• Adheres to standards of clinical practice and patient care appropriate to the age of the patients.
• Assists in transfer/positioning of patients.
• Collaborates with the MD and circulating nurse to provide care for each patient.
• Respects the confidentiality of all information.
• Corrects use and setup of supplies and equipment
• Assures availability and proper functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Assembles and adjust equipment.
• Cleans, replenishes, and sterilizes instruments and supplies as needed.
• Participates in the evaluation of new equipment or supplies.
• Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room in readiness of next patient.
• Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
• Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
• Communicates in a respective manner.
• Ensures a safe, secure environment.
• Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.
• Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.
• Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.

Required Qualifications

• Military surgical assistant or
• LPN surgical assistant or
• Surgical technologist training
• If LPN, must be MN licensed
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross or MTN)

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• 1- 3 years surgical experience
• AST Certification or certification eligible at time of hire
