Job Description

Job Title: Student IT Assistant

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computers, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide support for network connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi and VPN troubleshooting.
  • Assist in setting up and managing accounts for university systems (email, learning management systems, etc.).
  • Help with the maintenance and updates of IT documentation, including user guides and troubleshooting logs.
  • Assist in inventory management of hardware and software.
  • Support the IT department in various tasks related to security, software updates, and system backups.
  • Provide customer service by answering IT-related inquiries and offering helpful solutions.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Alcorn State University.
  • Minimum Experience: Prior experience in area applied but not required.
  • Licenses/Certifications: N/A.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting common software and hardware issues.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions carefully.
