Job Description

Job Summary

The Sr. Business Development Manager leads strategic client engagement and pursuit efforts within assigned markets and sectors. This role is responsible for developing high-value relationships, managing opportunity pipelines, and executing growth strategies aligned with operating unit objectives. The position collaborates with market sector champions to pursue business development opportunities and implement overall win strategies for a defined market or geography. Also contributes in the development and preparation of market research, lead generation, pre-win strategies, proposals, and any other needs to successfully obtain new business.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborates with Operations, Preconstruction, Marketing, Estimating, Scheduling, VDC/BIM, and other support functions on pursuit activities.
  2. Develop and execute strategic BO plans for assigned sectors or client accounts.
  3. Drive pursuit strategy and win planning for assigned opportunities.
  4. Executes profit centers marketing plan.
  5. Lead or co-lead proposal strategy, storyboarding, presentation development, and interview preparation for moderate-to-high complexity pursuits.
  6. Lead preparation of opportunity overviews, Capture Plans, client-account plans, and pre-win actions.
  7. Leads client relationship management activities.
  8. Mentor Coordinators and Business Development Managers.
  9. Participates in strategic planning and annual business planning activities.

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. 5-8 years' experience in business development/marketing in a construction related industry- with specific experience in construction industry within our core market sectors a plus.
  2. A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Urban Planning, Business, or a related field.
  3. Ability to influence up to senior levels in organizations (peers, customers, partners and within and outside of the company).
  4. Clear understanding of primary industry delivery models.
  5. Demonstrated collaborative team leadership and team building characteristics.
  6. Demonstrated success managing client relationships and pursuit strategies.
  7. Developing business acumen, financially and operationally.
  8. Excellent communication skills to include good listening and verbal communication skills.
  9. Experience with CRM systems and lead/opportunity/project data management.
  10. Proactive and execution-oriented in his/her approach to business development.
  11. Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  12. Quick study of business development process (identification, qualification, capture and bid activities).
  13. Specific experience in construction industry within our core market sectors.
  14. Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  15. Track record of success in past roles.
  16. Willing to learn and understand Sundt's market sectors and differentiators.

  5. Will lift, push or pull objects up to 50Ibs on an occasional basis.
  6. Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.
  7. Will use telephone, computer system, email, and other electronic devices on a frequent basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
