Join the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System as an Assistant Nurse Manager and help lead nursing operations that directly support exceptional Veteran care. Duties

As an Assistant Nurse Manager with the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System, you will partner closely with the Nurse Manager to support daily operations, develop nursing staff, strengthen team performance, and advance improvements in care delivery. This role offers the opportunity to influence both the employee and Veteran experience through collaborative leadership, staff development, quality improvement, and hands-on clinical support. You will help create a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and professional growth while contributing to the success of an interdisciplinary care team.

• Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to nursing staff while supporting the operational needs of the assigned unit.
• Partner with the Nurse Manager to develop staff schedules, complete performance evaluations, address performance concerns, and support effective employee relations.
• Identify staff development and competency needs and implement education, coaching, reorientation, or performance improvement plans to strengthen nursing practice.
• Evaluate patient care delivery, unit workflows, and work processes to identify opportunities that improve safety, efficiency, quality, and the Veteran experience.
• Develop and participate in action plans that address changing patient care needs, service requirements, and opportunities to strengthen standards of nursing practice.
• Promote a collaborative, high-reliability culture by modeling effective nursing leadership and working with interdisciplinary teams to advance excellence in Veteran care.
• Support staff recognition, professional growth, continuing education, and development while maintaining awareness of emerging nursing trends and practice needs.
• Deliver direct nursing care at the bedside when needed, applying the nursing process and evidence-based practice to support safe, individualized care for Veterans.

Requirements

Conditions of employment U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program.
