Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is a district on the rise, serving over 325,000 students in 500+ schools and employing over 45,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world-class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. In order to fulfill this mission, we make three commitments to our students, their families, and all Chicagoans: academic progress, financial stability, and integrity. Six core values are embedded within these commitments – student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning.
Curriculum Instruction and Digital Learning (CIDL) is responsible for the development of Skyline, CPS’ Pre-K-12 high quality curriculum. The Skyline curriculum is a lever used to move towards the district’s goals around effective instruction in all CPS classrooms. Presently CIDL is developing a new K-12 social science curriculum that is available to schools on a “point of use” basis for the SY26-SY27 school year.
The part-time temporary Social Science Curriculum Writer will be responsible for supporting the development and refinement of high-quality, standards-aligned Social Science instructional materials for Pre-K through 12th grade. This role requires a strong knowledge of content standards and unpacking content standards to inform unit design. Key responsibilities include selecting culturally relevant sources for units, writing engaging student assessments, developing lesson slideshows, and writing comprehensive teacher facilitation guides and lesson plans. The part-time temporary Social Science Curriculum Writer will collaborate closely with curriculum designers, assessment managers, and content teams to ensure all materials align with district design guidelines and support effective social science instruction across CPS classrooms.
This part-time/temporary position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 20-30 hours per week for an anticipated period of 7 months beginning November 2, 2026 and ending June 20, 2026.
