Product Manager – Coatings

Remote – Eastern U.S., Southeast or Midwest preferred

Our client, an established specialty chemical company, is looking for a coatings professional to take on a highly visible market leadership role in North America. You'll become the company's subject matter expert for a segment of the coatings market. You'll work directly with major coatings manufacturers on technical challenges, identify where the market is heading, and help shape product development and strategy alongside R&D, marketing and commercial teams.

Rather than simply reacting to account needs, you'll take the lead on determining which customers, projects and opportunities deserve attention. This role offers a strong career move from two directions. If you work for a coatings manufacturer today—in the lab, technical service, applications or sales—it's an opportunity to move to the supplier side and put your knowledge of formulation, applications and customers to work more broadly. If you sell raw materials into coatings manufacturers, it's an opportunity to move beyond managing a territory and into product and market strategy.

The position also includes managing one direct report, providing an opportunity to gain or expand people-management experience.

What we're looking for

• A career built in paint and coatings—either with a coatings manufacturer or selling additives, resins, pigments or other raw materials into coatings manufacturers
• Enough technical depth to communicate credibly with formulators and help solve formulation and application problems
• Industrial coatings experience is a strong plus
• Curious, proactive and self-directed; a good listener who enjoys customer contact and wants a greater role in where the business goes next
