Job Description

Are you a compassionate, flexible, and dedicated COTA looking for meaningful PRN work? Home of the Innocents is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our therapy team at the Kosair for Kids Complex Care Center, Kentucky's only pediatric skilled nursing facility for medically complex children and young adults.

This is a true PRN position with no minimum hour requirements. You'll step in when our team needs you most, covering conferences, weekends, vacations, and staffing gaps — and you'll do it within a supportive interdisciplinary environment where your clinical skills directly improve lives.

A Day in the Life

As a PRN COTA at Kosair for Kids Complex Care Center, you'll provide high-quality, safety-focused occupational therapy services under the supervision of our Occupational Therapist, working collaboratively with the full interdisciplinary team to ensure each resident receives timely and appropriate therapy support. The children and young adults in our care have complex medical needs — and the work you do keeps them active, functional, and moving toward their goals.

Schedule: PRN (as needed) — no minimum hour requirement. Coverage is primarily for conferences, weekends, vacation, and staffing gaps. Flexible scheduling within a 24/7 care environment.

How This Position Contributes to Our Mission

  • Ensure residents receive safe, effective therapy services during times of fluctuating therapeutic needs or staffing gaps
  • Strengthen the care team by providing flexible, high-quality clinical support when needed
  • Enhance family communication and trust by offering clear and compassionate updates during assigned shifts
  • Reinforce trauma-informed, resident-centered care across Kosair for Kids Complex Care Center
  • Help maintain safety, functional support, and developmental progress for medically complex children and young adults
  • Document occupational therapy services accurately in the EMR and communicate resident progress to the supervising OT and care team

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate of Applied Science degree with successful completion of an Occupational Therapy Assistant program
  • Current NBCOT certification and active Kentucky OTA licensure
  • At least 1 year of pediatric experience, including clinical rotation experience
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong communication skills — ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to interact with children, families, and team members with dignity and professionalism
  • High integrity and commitment to providing excellent care

Preferred:

  • Experience with pediatric tracheostomies, ventilators, and assistive technology
  • Experience working with children with multiple disabilities and complex medical needs
  • Long-term care or skilled nursing facility experience

What You'll Receive as a Valued Member of Home of the Innocents

  • True PRN flexibility — no minimum hour requirements
  • Supportive interdisciplinary team environment
  • Paid training opportunities
  • Access to organizational resources and professional development
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact with Kentucky's most medically complex pediatric population
