Location: Tucson Campus

Address: Tucson, AZ USA

Position Highlights

The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona seeks a postdoctoral researcher in computational seismology with a focus on dense array monitoring of geothermal systems. The postdoctoral researcher will join the Persaud Lab and will contribute to a transdisciplinary collaborative project that aims to utilize multiple phases of data collection to create time-lapse images of the study area in the southern Rio Grande rift, New Mexico.

The central goals of the project are to construct high-fidelity subsurface models, quantify model uncertainties, integrate non-tomographic constraints and gravity modeling of the crustal structure, and contribute to an integrated modern geoscientific framework characterizing the geothermal potential of the system. The initial appointment would be for one year.

Previous experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: collection and analysis of dense nodal seismic datasets, ambient noise tomography, high-performance computing, machine learning applications in observational seismology, and familiarity with multiple geoscientific data types including aeromagnetic and borehole data. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and collaboratively on a project requiring initiative, strong organizational skills, and effective communication.

Responsibilities will include participating in workshops focused on subsurface characterization for energy and water resources applications, and supportively collaborating with students. The start date is flexible, however October 2026 is preferred. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Benefits

Outstanding U of A benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; U of A/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to U of A recreation and cultural activities; and more! Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
