Postdoctoral fellow/research associate/data scientist in cancer epidemiology research

A full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Cancer Epidemiology is available starting as soon as possible. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative research focused on host-oncovirus infections, breast and cervical cancer, and cervical cancer prevention trials in Africa and the United States. The fellowship also offers valuable training and experience in genomics research, preparing fellows for careers in academia, government, or the private sector.

The fellow will play an active role in study design, project implementation, project management, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Working within multidisciplinary teams, the candidate will collaborate with researchers across multiple departments and institutes at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, as well as with national and international academic partners. Research efforts will focus on applying genomic methods and analytical approaches to integrate existing datasets with genomic and phenotypic data, with the goal of developing and refining risk prediction models for complex diseases and traits.

This position offers exciting scientific challenges and significant opportunities for professional growth. Research activities may include the analysis of complex genomic datasets, database development and management, project coordination, qualitative and quantitative research, systematic reviews, and statistical modeling related to cancer, oncogenic viral infections, and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Responsibilities will also include preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Candidates with experience in one or more of these areas are encouraged to apply. Additional duties may include protocol development, study design and implementation, supervision of junior researchers, presentations at national and international scientific conferences, and grant writing. Fellows may also have opportunities to contribute to related research projects. The training program includes mentored research, grant-writing experience, and teaching opportunities.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in one or more statistical or programming platforms, including R, Python, SAS, or Stata.
• Experience working with complex datasets and epidemiologic analyses.
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent organizational, record-keeping, and project management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• An interdisciplinary mindset and commitment to collaborative research.
• Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
