JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Harrisburg is seeking an experienced Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR), AI & Health Innovation to support the Lambert Center for Innovation and the College’s growing research and innovation portfolio.

The EIR will work with selected faculty, researchers, students, and emerging venture teams to help move promising ideas toward commercialization, industry partnership, startup formation, licensing, or other pathways to impact. Emphasis will be placed on opportunities involving artificial intelligence, healthcare, medical technology, engineering, and data-driven innovation.

The position is designed for an experienced entrepreneur, executive, investor, or commercialization leader who can connect university research and innovation with markets, industry, healthcare organizations, investors, and the broader Penn State innovation ecosystem.

Job Duties

The Entrepreneur-in-Residence will:

• Mentor selected faculty, researchers, students, and startup teams on market validation, business models, customer discovery, commercialization strategy, financing, and venture development.
• Evaluate promising research and technologies and help identify practical pathways toward commercialization, licensing, startup formation, or industry partnership.
• Focus on a small portfolio of high-potential projects, particularly in artificial intelligence, healthcare, medical technology, engineering, and related areas.
• Connect teams with external expertise and resources, including industry partners, healthcare organizations, investors, economic-development organizations, and relevant Penn State commercialization programs.
• Advise Lambert Center and Penn State Harrisburg leadership on emerging entrepreneurial opportunities, market trends, and strategies for strengthening the College’s innovation ecosystem in partnership with Penn State’s College of Medicine.
• The EIR may also participate selectively in Lambert Center pitch events, workshops, innovation showcases, and other programs where their expertise can have significant impact.

Requirements and Qualifications

The successful candidate should have significant professional experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, commercialization, investment, business development, or related fields.

Preferred experience includes:

• Founding, leading, advising, or investing in technology-based companies.
• Artificial intelligence, healthcare, digital health, medical technology, engineering, or data-driven businesses.
• Moving technologies or products from concept through commercialization.
• Early-stage financing, venture capital, angel investment, or startup acceleration.
• University research commercialization or technology transfer.
• Building partnerships among universities, companies, healthcare organizations, investors, and government.

Candidates should demonstrate strong mentoring, communication, networking, and relationship-building skills and an ability to work effectively with faculty, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and external partners.

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and significant related professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Schedule

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 10 hours per week. The schedule will be flexible and primarily devoted to mentoring, commercialization projects, strategic connections, and selected innovation activities.

Purpose of the Role

The Entrepreneur-in-Residence will help Penn State Harrisburg turn promising research and ideas into practical impact by helping innovators understand markets, develop commercialization strategies, build external relationships, and move high-potential technologies and ventures toward implementation and growth.
