Open rank professor - department of pediatric dentistry and community oral health

The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Community Oral Health seeks a part-time non-tenure Open Rank Professor. This position plays a pivotal role in the UT Health Sciences College of Dentistry, contributing to the education, clinical training, and professional development of dental students and pediatric residents. A Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Pediatric Dentist is sought to provide didactic and clinical instruction to predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

RESEARCH:

• Optional based on applicant interest.

TEACHING:

• Some didactic course development and delivery.
• Instruction in a predoctoral lab course.
• Moderation of literature reviews and other seminars as needed.
• Participation in the development of clinical assessments and standards.
• Clinical supervision of dental students and residents involved in patient care.
• Adherence with faculty calibration standards and the best practices guidelines of the AAPD.

CLINICAL CARE:

• Maintain existing board certification and any hospital privileges.
• Optional participation in College of Dentistry committees and priorities.
• Individuals new to academics will be expected to participate in professional development activities to establish a scholarly foundation for didactic and clinical teaching activities.
• Additional duties at the discretion of the department chair.
• Oversee students in clinical settings, ensuring competency in patient-centered care.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior faculty and residents.

SERVICE:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

DDS/DMD or equivalent degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in hospital dentistry and advanced behavior guidance techniques is preferred.

LICENSES:

Eligibility for a Tennessee Dental License or a teaching license.

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:

• Experience in private practice or advanced graduate training in General Dentistry.
• Prior teaching experience preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in electronic health records and contemporary dental techniques.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with others.
• Ability to adapt to interdisciplinary collaboration and clinical environment.
