Job Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a Neuromodulation Research Program Manager. Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities. Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post- and pre-award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Key Responsibilities:

• 20%25 – Research Program Operations and Administration: Manage day-to-day administrative and research operations for the neuromodulation research group, ensuring effective coordination across multiple studies, investigators, collaborators, and institutional units. Develop, implement, document, and continuously improve administrative processes and standard operating procedures supporting fMRI, TMS, and related human-subjects research. Coordinate research program priorities, timelines, deliverables, meetings, and operational needs in collaboration with faculty leadership and research teams.
• 20%25 – Grants, Contracts, and Financial Administration: Coordinate pre-award and post-award activities in partnership with departmental and institutional research administration teams, including proposal planning, budget development, submission timelines, award setup, and ongoing award management. Monitor research budgets, expenditures, personnel allocations, purchasing, and financial projections; identify potential variances or administrative issues and work with appropriate personnel to resolve them. Coordinate research agreements, subawards, data use agreements, material transfer agreements, service agreements, and other research-related contracts with appropriate institutional offices. Maintain awareness of sponsor requirements, reporting deadlines, milestones, and other administrative obligations associated with the program’s research portfolio.
• 20%25 – Regulatory and Human-Subjects Research Administration: Coordinate administrative aspects of IRB submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, reportable events, study closures, and other human-subjects research requirements in collaboration with investigators and study personnel. Support study start-up by coordinating institutional approvals, regulatory documentation, training requirements, research agreements, and operational readiness. Maintain systems for tracking regulatory approvals, personnel qualifications, study documentation, and compliance requirements across the research portfolio. Facilitate communication among investigators, research teams, regulatory offices, and institutional partners to support compliant and efficient research operations.
• 15%25 – fMRI and TMS Research Coordination: Coordinate administrative and operational interfaces among research teams, MRI facilities, TMS resources, and other shared research infrastructure. Facilitate scheduling, resource planning, study activation, equipment/service access, and administrative workflows associated with fMRI and TMS research. Work with investigators and technical personnel to identify operational barriers and develop processes that support efficient implementation of multimodal neuromodulation studies. Coordinate documentation and institutional requirements related to specialized research environments and equipment, as applicable.
• 10%25 – Personnel, Onboarding, and Research Team Support: Coordinate recruitment, hiring, appointment, onboarding, credentialing, training, and access needs for research personnel in partnership with departmental administrative teams. Develop and maintain onboarding resources and administrative processes for research staff, students, trainees, faculty collaborators, and other program personnel. Coordinate required research training and assist with tracking completion of institutional, regulatory, MRI, TMS, and study-specific requirements.
• 10%25 – Program Development and Strategic Support: Support faculty leadership in developing the administrative infrastructure for a growing interdisciplinary neuromodulation research program. Assist with planning new research initiatives, collaborations, grant applications, shared resources, and programmatic activities. Develop program metrics, tracking systems, reports, and other tools to evaluate research activity, operational performance, funding, and program growth. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, standardize workflows, and develop scalable systems as the research portfolio expands.
• 5%25 – Communication and Institutional Coordination: Serve as a primary administrative point of contact for internal and external collaborators, departmental administrators, research offices, sponsors, and institutional research resources. Organize program and research operations meetings, prepare materials, track action items, and facilitate follow-through on administrative and operational decisions. Perform other duties related to research program administration and development as assigned.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO. This position is expected to work primarily at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, with work location and hybrid eligibility determined by departmental and program needs.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, public health, public administration, healthcare, nursing, healthcare, finance, accounting, business, business administration, or information sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
• 4–6 years of professional experience in research administration, clinical or human-subjects research operations, academic research program management, grants and contracts administration, or a closely related area relevant to the work assignment.
• A combination of education and related technical, military, or paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
• An advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.
• Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing research programs or research operations in an academic medical center, university, healthcare, or similarly complex research environment.
• Experience supporting human-subjects research, including IRB processes, study start-up, regulatory documentation, and research compliance.
• Experience with pre-award and/or post-award sponsored research administration, including research budgets, grant submissions, and sponsor requirements.
• Experience coordinating neuroimaging, neuroscience, neuromodulation, psychiatric, or other clinical/translational research; experience with fMRI and/or TMS research is highly desirable.
• Experience developing administrative processes and infrastructure for a new or rapidly growing research program, center, laboratory, or multidisciplinary research team.

• Occasional schedule flexibility may be required to support research activities, study timelines, sponsor deadlines, or meetings.
• Must complete and maintain applicable institutional research, human-subjects protection, compliance, safety, and facility-specific training.
• Occasional travel may be required for meetings, conferences, collaborative research activities, or other program-related purposes.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE $70,446 - $89,607. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
