Medical Director – Pathology

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with an established healthcare organization with a history dating back to 1912 to identify a Medical Director / Pathologist for their Anatomic Pathology practice in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The organization primarily provides AP laboratory and blood services, including blood donation processing and distribution. This is an excellent opportunity for a board-certified or board-eligible AP/CP physician with strong general surgical pathology experience who is comfortable working with both clinical and administrative leadership.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic interpretation of surgical pathology cases, including frozen sections
• Provide medical oversight and leadership for Anatomic Pathology services
• Collaborate with hospital staff, physicians, and administrative leadership
• Provide consultation and support to clinical teams as needed
• Participate in a light call schedule, primarily consisting of occasional phone consultations
• Support quality, compliance, and laboratory operations
• Provide physician-level leadership and guidance across the organization
• Assist with hematopathology responsibilities as needed; no autopsy responsibilities

Qualifications

• MD or DO with AP/CP board certification or eligibility
• General Surgical Pathology experience required
• Hematopathology experience preferred
• No specific fellowship training required
• Active or eligible for medical licensure in Michigan
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable interacting with physicians, hospital staff, and administrative leadership
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment

About the Opportunity

The organization processes approximately 14,000 cases annually and works with a contracted laboratory team of approximately 2.5 FTEs in Michigan who support day-to-day slide interpretation and frozen sections. The incoming Medical Director will play an important role in providing diagnostic expertise, physician leadership, and collaboration with hospital and administrative teams.
